I have the double image ghost problem too. Has anyone come up with a surefire remedy on their own or through Toyota yet?
Maybe you guys need to switch the steering wheel to the right side of the car, no such trouble this side of the pond ;-)
It has alot to do with how tall you are or how high your seat is. When i look at mine the lower my head is the less i see of the double effect.
It's definitely there on mine! I thought it was because the touch tracer controls were a seperate display phsically laid on top of the others, but i'll have a look at this "projection" thing...
I know I am resurrecting an old thread, but as a new Prius owner this jumped out at me immediately as I was driving the car home. I attached an image of the effect take with a camerphone, with the phone right on the dash in front of the display. It is a bit blurry, but you can definitely see the double image. I feel like I am looking at it cross-eyed when glance at it. Definitely annoying - but I am glad that the hybrid system info display isn't affected by this. I will take a shot at cleaning it this week and see if it helps at all (or adjusting brightness). Thanks Jeff
I'd take it back to the dealer that doesn't look right at all, the effect you mean is clearly to see but that is not normal, even though I sit on the other side in the vehicle ;-)
I will have to sit in the passenger seat and see if it does look any different. I got another look at it when I was at lunch today, and it is less noticeable in daylight. It comes across to me as just "blurry" more than a double image, but if you look really closely, it is still a double image causing the blurriness. I even tried cleaning it and it didn't help. I didn't realize that the image was projected from the "window" in the horizontal part of the dash in front of the display until I read it here. Once I stuck my hand in there I could see it.
Just picked up my 2011 Prius Premium this monday and first thing I noticed when driving from the dealer was the double vision and it really bugs me. I have ordered a technician to have a look at it next tuesday but after reading here I am not sure if it is worth the time driving it there. I live in Norway, Europe and got the Premium with solar roof, radar, navi and all of the other good stuff.
All headup display will have some double vision. There's no way around it due to the one way mirror used. The first vision is the reflection from the front of the glass display. The second vision is reflection from the back of the glass display. The double vision can be minimized with anti-reflection coating applied to one side of the mirror but it will still be there if you look for it. Just live with it. Toyota scientist can't change the laws of physics never-mind the technicians.
I hope you enjoy all the toys! glad they finally started offering the radar etc in europe, just annoyed i missed it!

I would assume it is a reflection. I noticed it almost immediately whilst test driving the car. I think the reflection is caused by the projection of the speed and such. I don't notice it on the other side of the display that shows the energy flow, only on the speed side.
lucky guy.... My whife has a 2010 Toyota Yaris with the "same" ghost image display and that is clear as anything. I will go to the dealer this weekend and check the display on the test drive cars and display room cars to see if they are all as bad as mine. This display and the terrible tin can noice it makes when you slam the doors shut are the only things bugging me so far. Have only driven my new car 240 km so far.....
I literally just went and compared that picture, with my Prius display and I honestly have to say, I don't see much double vision at all... But in that picture it's very noticeable. Weird.
Funny thing. I noticed it really good whilst I tested the car. It didn't bother me then because I assumed it was a reflection. A couple of weeks ago I went to the Eye Doctor to get my annual eye check up. Well it seems that part of the reflection I was seeing was my vision had changed slightly. LOL. I go some new contact lens and glasses and the Double Vision on the display is nearly gone. It is still there just not as pronounced. :cheer2:
