Do you still have a surge when using CC and driving over bumps/rough roads, or is it your foot moving on the throttle when you hit a bump that causes the "surge"?

All I am saying is Toyota has not fixed the surged problem in my Prius still and trying to find glitches in software code or micro-processing hardware is easier said than done ie Windows OS.

First the aliens send an electronic pulse from the mother ship to cause the unintended acceleration. Then they proceed to zap the braking ECU, kill the over-ride system, etc. I even saw the mother ship. Honest!

Well, you're not going to convince everyone...
I have to wonder what the US Governments motivation was considering their investment in a competitors brand (i.e.Chevy Volt), but then again I'm a right wing nut.

The whole fiasco worked out very well for me, as I bought our Prius right in the middle of the uproar and got a very good deal.

One year in and we've experienced absolutely zero issues with the car in any conditions.

I repeat... They spent 10 months examining such things. Experts. Engineers (not the railroad kind). NASA techs. Not rodeo clowns.

why would your code be different than anyone else's? they don't have to find a bug, they can flash over yours. but that wouldn't explain why you have it and others don't?

His car is back on the road btw. $3800 repair plus a rental car fee for a month. Last week he was driving 70mph on the freeway and all of the electronics shut down: nav, multifunction display, lights everything. No problem.

You don't have a surge problem so you're absolutely right that they haven't solved it. If you actually believe you have a surging problem that you can reproduce when many investigators familiar with the problem cannot reproduce it why haven't you shown it to them? Moreover, since you must realize you have an incredibly rare car, why are you driving it? It sounds very unsafe.

We had some problem with a system at work recently. It got escalated up. Nobody could figure out what was causing the problem, why a process that used to work no longer was. Turns out it was user error. It's very hard for people to figure out problems that cannot be reproduced. Especially if they never happened to begin with.

What page has the confirmed SUA?

"Only latch-up can explain the Haggerty (NJ) 2007 Avalon incident:
    • No accelerator pedal sticking
    • No floor mat interference
    • High RPM continued when driver was outside the vehicle
    • Eliminated by turning off ignition
    • Multiple incidents (5) occurred in same vehicle"

All they did in that bad powerpoint presentation is take the 2003 NASA flight control mishap and form a hypothesis around "latch-up." No hard evidence.

And, sure, 5 people have had SUA occur in two different Toyota vehicles implying driver is doing something to increase probability of SUA

So what if it's a single incident completely unique to that car and it's still a hypothesis. Nothing confirmed.

I knew you wouldn't be satisfied with the NASA report if it didn't go your way.

Yeah, I am glad and relieved too that they didn't find anything. However I imagine these systems and software to be incredibly complex, and it had to be a complex undertaking in the first place for external teams, superlative capabilities and intelligence notwithstanding, to try and find precisely, the "ghost in the machine", based on presumably reverse engineering, software diagnostics, testing, etc. Noting that implementation flaws would be the more likely suspects, an unlikely but far more difficult problem would be to identify a design and analysis shortcoming, or flawed assumptions.

The amusing thing in all this is how Ray LaHood and his cohorts are stepping forward confidently now to exonerate Toyota, when these were the same comics not many months ago who were warning the general public off Toyota! I state this based on reading the reports, may be in reality the announcements were made with due humility attesting to the fact that at worst, if indeed there is a ghost in the machine, the best efforts for 10 months of the most qualified minds and resources at the beck of the most technologically advanced nation on earth have fallen short at finding it!

Thus at the very least, if the Toyotas were/are indeed bad, they would still represent among the best that current technology, manufacturing, QA, etc could create, which is not an insignificant vindication for Toyota. And for that, I am glad.

which is different from the unintended acceleration case.

I understand what you're describing as it is, unfortunately, the way the TRAC and ABS works on the Gen 2.

I can replicate it almost every time on this one steep hill that has a manhole cover roughly halfway down. If I brake and hit that cover, there's a split second that the car "slips or surges" as the ABS kicks in.

It's usually not a problem unless you're following too close to the vehicle ahead. Just try to remember not to brake when you go over a railway track or a manhole cover (though the latter might be harder to see some times). IOW, be aware of the car's limitation and work around it.

Anyone who is stoopd enough to believe that the "US-only so-called sudden acceleration" issue was real won't believe the government report stating that there's no electrical problem.....so we're all the way back to where we were in the beginning.

The problem IS where it almost always is....a dead short between the seat and the accelerator pedal.

Actually I was hoping that the government would find a flaw.
Priuses prices are starting to rise again. :D

Wow, way to misrepresent the facts. This was one persons opinion/theory presented to the NAS, not a conclusion of the NAS.

Consumer 10.0: Sales accelerate, but Toyota still faces safety concerns - Page 3 - Philly.com

"The National Academy of Sciences panel heard one theory Thursday from Ronald A. Belt... suggested that a kind of short circuit called a "latch-up" could cause a Toyota's electronic throttle to open and stay open...

Belt "admittedly guessed at the design of Toyota's ECU and, as a result, has made a number of incorrect assumptions that have led him to draw erroneous conclusions."

But at issue is whether there is a ghost. Something that you know to occur but cannot reproduce is damnably frustrating, but trying to find something that may not even exist is as well.
