Is there a list here on priuschat that shows what aftermarket nav systems are available for the 2010? I've been doing a few google searches and the results are a mess.

not sure I want the Rosen, would really like voice commands and text to speech for roads.. Not knowing where to find a list and reviews makes this a daunting task for an upgrade (and tempts me more to just get a portable)..

Any insights?

 

Savanster - I like to look at crutchfield.com -- you can punch in your car info and it will show systems that will fit. Unlike the Rosen system here though, you wouldn't end up with functional buttons framing the screen - those are specific to the Prius-ready model. You would end up with blank plastic -- if you look at the photos on crutchfield, I think you will get an idea of what I'm trying to say.

There are actually quite a few options on crutchfield.com and I"m sure there are more. There are people on here much more knowledgeable than me on here who probably have more good info.

 

Hi everyone -

One thing I learned from my local car audio/video shop - is that any double-din will fit - it's just about finding the right one for you. I am torn between the Rosen, the Sony XNV-660BT and the Pioneer AVIC-920BT. Anyone have a specific view on these? I am looking at good Ipod integration and of course good navigation.

I did notice that the Sony is just over $700 on Amazon and the Pioneer is $730.

Any thoughts would be great

Everything plug and play, did not have to buy any cable.
Map respond very quick.
It charge my iphone4, play and control my musics in my iPhone4 (even those I got warning accessory not compatible iPhone. Just hit ok on iphone).
Next step will hook up a back up camera.
Very happy with Rosen HU.

 

How does it tell you where to turn with the audio if no street names and how far before the turn does it tell you?

How is the voice recognition? Is it easy to control by spoken commands?

 

As far as telling you where to turn without street names, it gives you a few verbal prompts, ie "turn right in 1 mile, turn right in 1/4 of a mile, turn right in 200ft....etc" visually on the screen it will give you the exit number or the street name to turn on but it doesn't speak it like newer gps units.

I don't think it has voice recognition or commands to control the unit, or at least I haven't used it. I don't have a huge need for navigation since I know the area pretty well. My wife uses the navigation and backup camera.

I mainly got it for the iPod integration which works alright. There's no easy way to scroll through and search a bunch of songs on the gps screen but you can control from the steering wheel and it will charge the iPhone 4 (when plugged in) which is nice. Basically, if you're trying to find a specific song out of 1000s on your iPod it'd be a pain but if you load up a reasonable sized playlist it's manageable. The bluetooth streaming is pretty slick too. We took a short road trip and it was cool to just pass the iPhone (no cords) to anyone in the car and have them pick which songs to play.

I've spent about a month with the Rosen and overall am pretty happy. GPS works well enough for me. Not speaking street names is a little annoying but not the end of the world. iPod integration is pretty good and DVD video is nice (for passengers). I played with the factory GPS and the Rosen and liked the Rosen better which is why I got it.

Well, the Rosen arrived Monday and was installed by midnite. Thanks to all the posters on this one.

Camera and it's cables are on order and should arrive soon.

The unit looks great and sounds great. The SD reader is odd, it doesn't show the mp3s on the sd card, just numbers. But if you go into the settings and look at the display setting, the SD card files are listed.

It;s like something is missing, a file or something.

Anyways, I fussed around with another sd card for the nav and got Garmin to run. You need the GMXT5-2din file thats out there.

Just copy the touch.cfg file, the device.nng and maplaunch.ini file from your Rosen card and then edit the ini file to launch the Garmin.

You'll need to unlock the software and change the port from 3 to 1 in the garmin.ini file for the gps. And follow Garmin file structures like you need to place a garmin folder in the root of the SD card.

And It still prompts me to click "OK" before it launches. I'm not sure about how to fix that. This is not for noobs but it can be done.

Do this on a New SD Card. Keep the Rosen Nav card intact in case you want to go back. I did get it to fit on a 2 GB card.

Now I'm wondering if I can get Tom-Tom to run on it.... I'm off to buy a few 4 gb blank cards.......

Hi Mr. Fraychild and Mr. Cloud. I am an owner of 2010 Chevy…… Traverse 1LT W/o Bose and just bought the newly released Rosen DSGM1010-P11 (replaces the GM700N11 and GM710N11. a little upgrades here and there).

Sorry for bringing my CHEVY into this conversation but I must say.. The way you guys (Mainly Fraychild and of course ALL of you!) share detailed thoughts/photos/info/updates - is just AMAZING!! Wish I would have on the Chevy forums half of the Rosen HU specifics as you guys provide here...eace:

I just got mine and am ready to install it... However, a local dealer told me that permanently grounding the break wire wouldn’t be a good idea... He says its gonna mess up the entire nav system and delay the GPS signal... he would rather install me an on/off switch so I just turn it on when needed..

now this guy might wanna make his 150 bucks out of me (that’s what he asks for installing this switch) and that’s why he's kinda maneuvering my mind towards his Pocket.... OR, maybe it does have some truth in it??

The Rosen head units are all (almost) the same and have the same OS so what applies to wonderful Prius applies to the Rosen GM too.

can anyone share experience on this – if you had permanently grounded the wire for a couple of month yet with no problems?

i have a rosen on a prius with the blue wire grounded , no problems so far .

 

He is trying to rip you, plain and simple. $150 for a simple switch to put a wire to ground? if you really wanted one you could do it yourself for less than a dollar.

So, while the Garmin runs on the Rosen, it crashes when you go to the POI choice and when you touch the lower right corner icon.

I can't figure out what I'm missing, path? SD card name? I just can't seem to keep it going.

It'll search for a destination and plot a course, just don't do anything else.

Kinda disappointing frankly.
