My wife and I are renting a Prius tomorrow using the Hertz rent to buy program. If we like it, we will buy it. I took a test drive in a 2010 Prius last weekend, however, I don't remember how to turn it on or off. So, please tell me; how do you turn it on and off?
With the key fob in the car with you, you press the brake pedal and push the POWER button on the dash. When the READY light appears in the left corner of the instrument panel, you put it in R or D and drive away. Same thing to stop. Push the brake pedal, press the PARK button and then press the POWER button. When the instrument panel just displays ODOMETER mileage the system is OFF.
Always set the parking brake. Always lock the car when leaving it, no matter where you park, so that it will warn you if a door is ajar.
Not sure if a rental will have the smart key? I know a friend rented one and had to insert the fob in the dash, it was a GenII tho. Just make sure the Hertz person walks through it once with you. - D
Hey, I know the feeling! We just purchased a 2010 Prius from Enterprise last week. I had also looked at the Hertz online inventory in Sacramento/Bay Area, but my friends had positive experience with Enterprise and we got a fair deal. At this time we only have one key fob, but Enterprise "may" have another set at headquarters. If another fob isn't forthcoming, we'll have to get a duplicate made. It makes me nervous to only have one set. Meanwhile, love the car, still reading the manual and checking pc frequently. Cheers!
