My 2010 Prius SUCKS IN THE SNOW. IT BOGS DOWN AND COMES TO A HALT! Why doesnt toyota have traction control release? SO STUPID
PUT THE CAR IN "ECO" and don't floor it, I've passed so many conventional Front wheel drive cars spinning their wheels at stop signs and lights that it's ridiculous. Try it, you'll like it
You might try buying a set of winter tires next year. The Prius does not "suck." Just your judgement.
I have no issues in the snow, but simply put into ECO and go slow. You may also need new tires. Also if you really need to turn off TRAC here it is MAINTENANCE MODE (2WD for measuring Exhaust Gas) - Inspection of ignition timing etc. when performing engine maintenance, idle speed exhaust emissions testing (CO, HC), etc. - Tests using a speedometer tester, two-wheel chassis dynamometer, etc. - Keeps the engine idling when park (P) is selected - Cancels traction control CERTIFICATION MODE (2WD for cutting TRC) - Tests using a speedometer tester, two-wheel chassis dynamometer, etc. - Cancels traction control Maintenance Mode: Perform the following steps from (1) through (4) in 60 seconds. (1) Turn the power switch on (IG). (2) Fully depress the accelerator pedal twice with park (P) selected. (3) Fully depress the accelerator pedal twice with neutral (N) selected. (4) Fully depress the accelerator pedal twice with park (P) selected. (5) Check that "MAINTENANCE MODE" is displayed on the multi-information display. (6) Start the engine by turning the power switch on (READY) while depressing the brake pedal. HINT: The idle speed in maintenance mode is approximately 1000 rpm with park (P) selected. The engine speed increases to 1500 rpm when the accelerator pedal is depressed midway with park (P) selected. When the accelerator pedal is depressed more than midway, or when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed, the engine speed increases to approximately 2500 rpm. Certification Mode: Perform the following steps from (1) through (4) in 60 seconds. (1) Turn the power switch on (IG). (2) Fully depress the accelerator pedal three times with park (P) selected. (3) Fully depress the accelerator pedal three times with neutral (N) selected. (4) Fully depress the accelerator pedal three times with park (P) selected. (5) Check that "CERTIFICATION MODE" is displayed on the multi- information display. (6) Start the engine by turning the power switch on (READY) while depressing the brake pedal. To disable both modes, just turn the car off.
Oh boy...here we go again... Plenty of people drive a Prius in cold climates without problem...use the PC forum search facility to find other people's comments and the answer to your question.
The car doesn't drive worse or much better than other FWD cars, except the traction control can get you stuck.
Look at my avatar that is my Prius in the snow. I am from Canada so have driven tons in the snow. That week in Texas when I took the picture was snow and ice for 4/5 days and I have a steep hill with a turn half way up it to get to my house. ECO mode and easy on the Go Peddle no issue getting up the hill with Trac light flashing once or twice. Watched two or three others slide up the hill and down.
Don't be so hard on the accelerator. Whatever happened to feathering the throttle instead of just punching it and letting TRAC do its thing. The 2010's TRAC is miles better than our 2005's TRAC. It works transparently and with the ever changing conditions this past week (from -20°C and fresh powder to -30°C and washboard-like surfaces because of frozen compacted snow to +4°C and soft, melted snow) TRAC never let me down.
