Hey guys, I am a new Prius owner. I just leased my 2011 Prius two days ago, and couldn't be happier. One thing I do want to do to it is install/retrofit HIDs. Since these gen.3 Prius only come with Halogen or LED, I really didn't want to up my lease payment just to have LEDs. I know I need to get H11 for the low beam, and that installing them is a piece of cake, according to several on this forum. I do have some questions though: - Do I need a Hid wiring harness? - Do I need to buy the 35w or 55w kit? - Do I need to buy HID "light out" decoders? Thanks guys!
It is a piece of cake - however the passenger side is a bit of a pain in the nice person to get to. I don't have much time to reply - but 1. No you don't need a harness. I run mine without one perfectly 2. 35w will suffice just fine. That's what the majority of us here use. 3. No, you do not. Good luck! If you need more info, don't hesitate to search in this forum for "HID" you'll get zillions of results. Also - check the accessories and modifications section. There is a lot of HID talk there.
Do you have to drill a hole in the headlight to get the wiring through to the bulb?? I dont know how else one would get the bulb wiring to the ballast? Thanks
What is a quality HID kit out there? Somebody posted a link in a related forum (HID Kits, BMW Aftermarket Bumpers & Lighting, DEPO - DDM Tuning) but it returned no result. Somebody else bought from eBay, with bad results. Also, I understand the HIDs are low voltage. But do they in fact draw less current from the car or more, on account of the two ballasts heating up or something?
