Great! Short trips are a killer - but still WAY better than in any other vehicle. You can get caught up in the higher FE standard the Prius sets for itself. Easy to fix the oil level, loosen but don't fully remove the drain plug and let a cup or so slowly drip out. Check the level and adjust until you're happy. You can probably even do it without elevating the car if you had to. - D
I live in sunny southern california so cold weather is rare. Its rarely below 50 and if it is, its only in the morning
You're definitely doing better. Short trips are indeed a mpg killer so unless your driving pattern changes you may never see 50mpg average. With summer temps you may hit high 40s which is what a lot of us average. Congrats on the change.
By FAR, short trips will influence your mpg the most. However, as others have stated, this is the case with all autos. -Brad
At the next oil change tell the service writer not to overfill it, and that you will check it yourself before leaving. And then do it. You can find lots of mistakes this way before they become expensive.
Keep in mind that short trips also hurt the MPG of non-hybrid cars. Compare that 40+ MPG to the actual MPG of your previous car, NOT to the window sticker MPG it had, for the same driving conditions.
