Ok this weekend I did a stupid thing. I was backing out of the garage before the door was fully up and it happened to bend then break the stock antenna off. Problem #1 is there is still a piece of he broken stud left in the stock mount on the roof of the car. #2 problem is when it bent and broke off the antenna it put a small dent in the roof where the front of the antenna base meets the car. My Damage control solution was to install a shark fin antenna. This would seem to A. fix the broken antenna and Cover the area that has the small dent, My question is it possible to remove the stock antenna mount (yes). And if so How? I was thinking that I might have to mount the new shark fin a bit more forward 1 inch at most to cover the dent. Any tips on removing the stock antenna on a 2010 V Thanks. I will be sure to post pic's of my fix. I ordered a Shark Fin from the PC store yesterday any Idea how long they take to get here?
Sorry to hear about the incident. Don't have any info on the antenna. You might try to have the dent popped though before covering up.
Im just wondering if any one has copletley removed the stock antenna and what is involved. The interior head liner would need to be removed to push the dent out. If i could get the stock antenna off that would allow me to mount the after market antenna just a bit forward and cover the dent. Im pretty sure I will be able to remove the stock antenna. I have tools. Chain Saw. Blow Torch, Vice Grips
I ordered a Shark Fin from the PC store yesterday any Idea how long they take to get here?[/QUOTE] Sorry to hear about what happen to you car. I ordered my shark fin from the PC store on 12/22 and i'm still waiting for it. Hopefully it will come soon.
Rodney: Thank you so much for the detailed pic's and wright up. Thank you for taking the time to show me what you have done. WOW thats quite a while to wait. Did you have a custom color. My car is Black so im hoping its a comom color and it gets here fast
Ok got my Shark Fin Today it took 15 Day's to get here. So with the wait over it was time to cover up my little Boo Boo. I didn't wait for the garage door to open up all the way while i was backing out and the antenna caught on the garage door and snaped it right of and in the process it dented my roof. DAMMMMMMM-O! Ok the First Pic here is the Dammage you can see the dent at the front edge of the antenna. Hard to believe in this light I just washed my car this morning! I cleand the surface with this, And Yes you could feel and see the wax come right off. Dont skip this step. This is the broken antenna base. The rest of the antenna is still in there. I got a bolt removing drill bit and it came right out. I then placed the shark fin on the roof and eye balled it straight. Had a buddy check to see if I was crooked. All was straight so on to the next step. Then I took some masking tape and put it around the Shark Fin as a guide. And attached the wire. Comes with a new bolt and washer. Pealed back the tape and stuck it down. It coved my dent and fixed my broken antenna @ the same time Perfict I give the Shark fin 2 Thumbs up. $78 for the fin is way better than having to pay the Dent pro guy $150 and still have to buy a new antenna mast. BTW I thought I was gonna have to remove the factory antenna so I could move the shark fin forward to cover the dent but because the size of the shark fin it had no problem covering the dent
