Thanks to Engadget! http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/10/toyota-debuts-new-prius-models-including-family-friendlier-priu/ Picture gallery w/ information ^^ "Toyota made no bones about the fact that more Prius models were to be unveiled in Detroit for the North American International Auto Show, even throwing advertisements up around town asking whether it's supposed to be Priuses or Priii. (We, as you can see, chose to side-step the debate.) Now we know what's coming, first being the Prius V. It's the MPV the company has been teasing, basically just a taller version of the four-door sedan with a hatchback and a whopping 60 percent more cargo space -- 32 cubic feet, which is more than most compact SUVs. It's to be rated 42mpg city, 38 highway, and 40 combined, which is a surprising 10mpg lower than the sedan model. That's perhaps a bit disappointing, but availability this summer is a pleasant surprise. Next is the Prius C, naturally for "concept," which is aimed at "young singles and couples." It's definitely funkier and way cooler than the current model, looking to have a nose very similar to the car's FT-86 concept. We hope the production model looks quite close to this, and while that's always a doubtful proposition we won't have all that long to wait, with it hitting dealerships in the first half of 2012. Toyota also showed off the Prius Plug-In, the very same one we test drove last year, said to be coming first to the western and eastern coasts of the US first, and re-affirmed the "patriarch" status of the current-generation Prius sedan, having sold 230,000 cars since 2009. It's good to be the king. " Unveiled the Prius V, and Prius C.:cheer2:
I'm having a hard-time deciding if I like it or not. I really need to see a better picture from the side and rear. I can tell you this, I'm definitely not interested in the Prius V. Much to much like an SUV for my tastes. I hate SUVs for far more reasons than just fuel economy, so I don't care if it gets 100 mpg, I still don't like SUVs. The Prius C would definitely spark my interest, but I need to see a better picture!
No, the c looks like the Toyota FT-86 concept. But the actual 86, now a Scion, looks nothing like its concept. I suspect we, too, will be disappointed in a few months.
It's the same frickin' car as last year (FT-Ch), just renamed and given a different paint job. Well, they've filled in the daft 'pixel' holes in the bumper, but that's it. I don't think the world is ready for driving around in an Aeron chair.
I now have no reservations about whether buying my Gen III sedan last July was the right thing to do. I'm glad I didn't wait. The v will pick up some customers that the sedan would have missed, but generally, yawn!
Hmmm I'm not so sure I like it. The front looks too long and pointy to me. Not even sure we're going to get it in the UK either. I do like the luggage capacity though.
The c will, no doubt, receive the standard Toyota front end. That is to say, it will look more like a Prius since it is a Prius. I also think that the indented upper half will go away. It wouldn't surprise me if the headlights went back down to the standard Prius location. That said, though, I would seriously consider buying that car.
I see hints of Gen II styling on the V front end. I like the size and concept, but the drivetrain may be a little wimpy for some people. Considering what Hyundai is doing with the Sonata hybrid, I expected at least as good from Toyota.
Well, I just don't think the v is aimed at my market. Reclusive and psychotic loners who spend too much time on the internet discussing cars they don't own. And since I'm not a fan of IMA, and Honda refuses for some reason to even bring the Hybrid Honda Fit to the States....then I'm interested in a small high MPG, Hybrid. Actually this picture doesn't look too bad, but at the reveal? I thought the front end of the c looked...cough..."bad". If I could get cargo space "close" to my Fit...then I like the smaller size. Otherwise? I think The good ol' Prius is the best choice.
Just an FYI, I've put all of the Prius v photos up here: PriusChat Forums - Danny's Album: 2012 Toyota Prius v Photos The Prius c photos should be up soon.
v: Looks like a Hybrid Toyota Matrix. Not a bad thing. I'd like to see a Prius that is in the same zone as the Ford Transit Connect and this is moving toward that zone. Kind of, anyway... c: Too early to tell. a concept car is just that. I think Honda is missing the mark with the CR-Z. A hybrid needs MPG! Toyota might hit this target if they do the Prius c well. Can't wait to drive 'em! Eric
