Although I had the advertised functionality for most of a morning, my AVC-100i has begun behaving as it did when I first installed it, thus:

Upon hitting the power button, the info display comes up on the MFD. It displays NO bars.
Most steering wheel controls are inoperative.
The car works, it drives, the AC works and responds to the temperature up and down buttons.
    Nav system doesn't work.
Climate button on MFD bezel gives a "Check Air Conditioner Connection" message.
Bluetooth links with phone. Phone buttons on steering wheel don't work.
MODE button and volume buttons don't work.
PWR button on Radio doesn't work.

When I remove the iPod from the AVC-100i, or remove the gray plug, the problem persists.
When I remove the black plug, the car operates normally.

So far, here's what I have inferred:

1: I didn't break anything on the car when I installed the unit, according to hybrideyes' instructions.
2: I may, perhaps, have damaged the AVC-100i somehow, or perhaps the plugs to it.
3: The problem appears to be rooted in how the AVC-100i announces itself to the rest of the audio system.

Any help you guys could offer would be appreciated. I'd hate to have to return the box, as it did work for a time.

It sounds like your unit might be defective. Have you send Vais an e-mail detailing these problems?
My guess is that you will have to send it back for repair.

I'm having problems with mine too. I just got it this week and took it to a local car audio installer.

My iPod works through the AIC-100i on occasion. My cd changer has quit working. I can't eject, load or switch from MD Changer to CD changer. My Sirius is plugged into the aux input on the AIC and it works just fine, but the iPod only works sometimes.

Is the AIC-100i setup as a CD-Changer or MD-Changer? It should be setup as a MD-Changer. There was a mini stereo headphone jack that was included with the AIC-100i that will change it to a MD Changer. The directions are in the manual and are very easy follow.

Actually it is set up to MD Changer. I can't get it out of MD changer right now because the it's like the cd changer is locked up. When I hit the mode button it stays in MD Changer.

With the car off, unplug the AIC. Turn on the car and radio and cycle through the modes. The CD-Changer should work again.
Turn off the car and connect the AIC. Turn the car back on and see if everything works again. If not, the AIC might be defective. My guess is that it is locked up and just needs to be reset.

I'm reaching the same conclusion, Bob. But I wanted to ask around in here before taking the step of returning the unit, since I'd always rather troubleshoot on my own - I usually learn more that way.

My first concern was that I had stuffed something in the Big White Box Of Wires, but that's okay - the fact that T'Pol works normally when the black plug is removed from the AVC-100i is verification of that. My latest hypothesis is that I may have a bad pin on one of the cables, so I'll take them all out and check continuity. If the cables check OK, then my problem is inside the box, and I'll have to return it.

A question for the masses, though - do I plug first and then power on, or power on first and then plug in? Just curious if there's a difference in how devices are registered on the network. Also, is there a way to "reset" the AVC that I haven't discovered?

    bummer man!!!

at least the Prius still works if you disconnect the AIC.

i guess it would be unrealistic to expect all the units to work... so this makes two out of a few hundred shipped?? there was bit over a hundred or so on the first order...

let us know how you are treated with these issues

can you comment on the difference between the cd changer mode and md changer mode? the only problem i find is that i can't fast forward in songs and when i cycle through mode, (most of the time i only get some of my playlists to show). i was wondering if getting it in cd changer mode will fix this issue. i would try to put it in cd changer mode but i don't want to pay my install guy to come back and check it out again. thanks

I'll let you know. It's off to a promising start. I left a message (on a Saturday) with Vais and they returned my call! I missed it, so it went to my voice mail. But they ask me to call them Monday to see if we could get this situation rectified.

I can't wait to get this working.

hope for the best... my experience with them and my AIC has been stellar. i enjoy mine so much, its hard to imagine having to go back to the old way especially since i only had a single disc player. the inconveinence of swapping discs forced me to listen to the radio a lot.

now i almost never listen to the radio ( im sure i will want to one day, but it hasnt happened yet!!) and dont miss it a bit!!

Ditto for my experience with the AIC-100i -- I feel the same as Dave.

Also, I found it extraordinarily easy to install (and I, ladies and gentlemen, am an idiot when it comes to car mucking-about-with.)

Though I should add: thanks to hybrideyes' instructions. I'm sure it would have been much more difficult without those.

I am having trouble with mine. It keeps jumping to disk 66 or 71 then as you go up or down through the disks it will eventually jump back to 66 or 71. So I can't get to the stuff in the 30-50 disks. I have 88 play lists no blanks. Can’t figure it out. I sent them a email yesterday.

do any of your playlists have more than 99 entries??

if they do, some have reported problems with that. that is why i use simple mode. nearly all my playlists are more than 99 songs and too lazy to rearrange them

    Never mind...I found them.

I don't think so, but will recheck. There was one that I thought I had redistributed but forgot to delete them. I will recheck it and retry.

The changer port has the AVC network passing through it (TX+/-). If either of its lines are shorted to ground or to each other, then AVC will fail and present the symptoms described by Embassy. Since disconnecting the AIC at AIC's end corrected the problem, it sounds like the AIC is defective. If it were the cable, the problem would have persisted unless you disconnected the cable from the changer/aux port at the HU.

I just installed mine this morning....
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/83163415@N00/sets/1277081

So far so good, way better then the 1st gen Alpine integration I have on my gas gusseler... any ways...

While installing, I noticed my OEM changer has an "adapter cable similar to the cable that comes with the AIC with simlar, extra, ports. If you had some knucklehead stereo guy install your AIC He/she may have choose the easy way and erroneously plugged in the AIC cable to the existing cable, saving 15mins of dissasymbly on the dash. Maybe cause the shorting/polarity mismatch Danman32 is talking about. Where any cables "left over" from the stereo-guys install? I have a picture of how the OEM cable can be connected to the AIC, ultimately I chose to not experiment with whats going on on that bus and followed the easy installation instructions. Good luck... Let me know if you need any help checking the install yourself.

    In fact Dan is correct.

By sheerest coincidence, business took me to Denver this week, so I popped by VAISTech in their facility at the Denver Tech Center. Eugene met me there, and we chatted pleasantly for a few minutes before he took my old AVC off my hands. Turns out Eugene is a Russian speaker, as am I, and so that was kind of fun. I don't get to speak Russian very often.

Eugene said he'd have the tech look over the unit, which turned out to be defective, so he handed me a new one. I put it in, in all of three minutes, and it works perfectly.

Bottom line: VAIS are a class act, they support their product, and it does exactly what it's supposed to do.

They said their Video product works perfectly except that they can't get the camera feed to go off when the car is in drive in a Prius (although it works fine in the Lexus). Anyway, that's my field trip report from Denver.
