Just purchased new prius(June 2010 model, mileage 6000) today and noticed a chip on the windscreen as I left the Dealer. They are offering a replacement of the windscreen. I have an option of part exchange in 30 days so I am bit puzzled. I waited for this blue Prius as it has leather interior, and Protection pack. I am slightly puzzled what to do, as the choice in part exchange is a Nov 2010 Prius in red, no leather or Protection pack, not a huge a fan of red, though driven 3000 less than my current one, 1000GBP more! Any suggestions?
You're thinking of rejecting the car over a chipped windscreen? Can it not be repaired? Or why not get them to replace it? Saying that, they're never the same afterwards. Why not consider the red car and get them to transfer the leather from the blue one? Still a nice car though eh?
Indeed! The Dealership isrdoing it for free as it cant be repaired! Just been to the AutoGlass they say that the new windscreen wont be any different other than Toyota mark etc and wont make much difference, as the manufacturer does send some supply directly to the parts supplier! But he works for AutoGlass!!! hmmmm
Before the prius i had a brand new vectra elite, and the screen lasted about 6 weeks before cracking. had to be replaced and was fine for 3.5 years afterward. i wouldn't worry about it. the screen fitters are used to screens with rain sensors etc these days.
Thank you Cabbie and Flanina! decided to stick with the blue one and getting windshield changed soon!
I had a windshield replaced on a BMW years ago and there were no issues. Tell them you want a Toyota OEM windshield (not a cheap alternative).
