I am a writer. "Rae Vynn" is two-thirds of my nom de plume. I came up with this name long before I ever got my hands on a computer mouse. When I did get online, I immediately grasped the idea of privacy, and decided to use it as my online name.

Since then, it has also become my "magical" name in some circles (it's how I'm addressed/referred to during ritual).

 

Parents, I recommend this. My daughter and her friends were about 12 when DSL came to our town and they wanted online. I sat with each and we worked out an online persona. For over a decade they never used real names online, only the nom de souris.

Because of their hobby, Cosplay, this has been very important to avoid the kind of stalking that putting exotic outfits online would otherwise attract. (not everyone prefers sheep)

Trollbait is from our friendly D&D games. I have had multiple characters die leading a troll away from the party. It didn't seem to be something that would be taken an the internet.

 

Mine is a nickname I was given in HS way too many years ago. We had too many Mikes in our class and were called by our last names. My Pennsylvania German classmates decided my Italian last name was too long (it's actually shorter than a lot theirs, but I digress), so they shortened it to what you see.

It died off as a nickname, but lives on on the internet.

 

And here I thought Danny had given you the job of trying to draw the trolls out so Evan can get rid of them.

 

At the first car forum visited, one poster was "EV1 Driver". I thought that was a good handle for the topic at hand. Added FL to mine to add some worthwhile specifics.

Then I start posting on Prius Chat where announcing yourself as a prius driver provides virtually no useful info whatsoever....but I'll keep it.
