Just got my new prius 2010 in gray metallic with the solar package! I already love it! ordered some all weather mats, and was wondering if it was worth it to get the door moldings for some ding protection?
Congrats on your new car! I hope you enjoy it and have many years of Prius ownership. You'll love the sunroof when you get to use it, it's so quiet! I think the door moldings are nice, I'd buy them.
Greetings and Welcome Aboard!!! :welcome: Yeah, the moldings will help. I hate to break it to you, but you're still gonna get dinged. Sorry.
Congratulation. The more you browse through this forum, the more you'll know about the car. The more you know about the car, the more you'd enjoy it. My other recommendation is to use the PWR mode for the first week. Then gradually switch to the Normal, then ECO mode. This way, you won't find the car too sluggish in ECO mode if you are switching from a more powerful gasoline engine vehicle to Prius. Concentrate more in the car itself instead of reaping the fuel saving at the beginning of the ownership. You'll find the car a lot more enjoyable than you think.
Congrats! I was wondering about getting door moldings too. I probably will. But then again, perhaps it would be better to apply sheets of bubble wrap to the side of the car! ;-)
Congrats--enjoy. Regarding door molding, they're only effective if the contours of the car next to you line up exactly with the location of the molding. What's the chance of that? I've had them on a previous car (they came standard), and can tell you from experience they aren't very effective. Plus I think they are pretty unattractive.
I opted not to install door moldings and edge guards. My experience suggests that car heights and door widths seldom match. It doesn't hurt to install them, but for the potential benefit, I didn't care for the look. I know I'll eventually get a few nicks, but I leave myself plenty of room when parking, when possible. BTW, if I had to do over, I WOULD NOT have got the Toyota all-weather mats. They're too flimsy, too thin. I will eventually get the Huskies. Enjoy your new Prius. Happy Motoring, Tom
Thanks for the feedback everyone! Yea I might hold off on the body side-moldings for now. I've been trolling here for a few months trying to weigh the positives v negatives and I really couldn't resist! I took delivery on 1/3 and loving it sofar. I've pretty much only used pwr for when I havew to pull out into traffic, and I do mostly highway driving, getting double my old gas mileage was just a no brainer! Probably gonna get the illuminated door sills and got some all weather mats shipping now! Not to many other mods til spring defrost!
I've got the door moldings, illuminated door sills and also the block heater. Among the three extras, I like the illuminated door sills the best. It gives me a rewarding feeling every time I enter the car in the dark. It makes feel like I deserve a special treatment after every hard working day. My doors are dent-free even after one year but I don't park in tight space. I also choose my parking space and try to park next to a car which backed in the parking spot. I think people backing in to park are more cautious and are better drivers too. It is also better to park to the driver's side of the car next to you. It the car is backing out of its spot, the driver can also judge the room easier than the passenger side. Therefore, the door moldings may not be necessary but I like it for its look.
