Wow that's interesting. I will have to take a closer look at the instructions. Thanks for the advice. Rick

I read all about the x-guages and finally got the nerve to try it. Am now monitoring rpm, ice coolant temp, instant mpg and inverter coolant temp (x-guage). Have a question though. Now that I am monitoring the inverter coolant temp what should the nornal temp be?

Mine usually runs about 20 or so degrees F. over ambient temperature. There is no thermostat (cooler the better) so it doesn't stay within a consistent range the way ICE coolant temp does.

Keep us posted on this. You may have given me a reason to buy a pro clip mount for my evo.

Bummer, already have the SG-II, but selling it and getting Torque + Adapter shouldn't be too hard. Downside is you'd need to run the phone plugged-in or the BT would tank the battery in a hurry.

I currently display engine coolant temp, ICE RPM (gratuitous version), HV battery amps, and GPH. Sometimes I'd switch between regen request, braking friction, MG1/MG2 torque, MPG, etc, but AMP and RPM are almost always on.

Always on: RPM, ICE Coolant Temperature, and HV Battery Amps

The fourth one is what ever I'm interested in at the time, MG1 Temp, IC Coolant Temp, Ign Timing, etc.

How is GPH better than just MPG? And what is the sweet spot for GPH?

    Thanks,

    Mark

All I can say is Wowser!

Is the picture you posted your setup from your own android device?

I joined the Torque forum at
Torque — OBD2 Performance and Diagnostics for your Vehicle
and am starting to read about it

so far I have more questions than answers. Would you share some of your findings with us?

    Which interface do you recommend.

Does it matter which version of Android you use, IIRC I saw that it works on 1.6.

Would it work with other Android devices like tablets or netbooks? I don;t have any interest in an Android phone and could use a bigger screen than a phone.

How about you starting a new thread to highlight what Torque does so we don't hijack this ScanGauge thread.

Thanks for posting that Torque info.

This is interesting, but it presents two issues:

    1) I am using my droid as a GPS and portable internet radio player so using it as a real-time trip monitor means that I need another phone for the other two

    2) does the OBDII port charge or maintain the charge of the phone while it's being used?

The gauges that are useful to me right now are RPM, FIA and 12V battery charge and MPH. I will soon program some xgauge options.

On a related note, before selecting the "HYBRID" option that prevents the 5 sec timeout, my average and instantaneous MPGs looked close to the MFD values. After selecting the "HYBRID" option, it is about 67% less than the MFD. So if the MFD shows 45MPG, SG shows ~15 or so. Any ideas?

Have you checked engine displacement size?

I set it to 1.5 liters before I discovered the "HYBRID" setting. So the MPG gauges stopped working properly after I set it to "HYBRID". I wonder if I entered some wrong information or setting with my first tank.

Can you use Torque to reset the back-up beep, headlight off delay, etc?

Does this app also allow you to disable reverse beep like the SGII?

Looks really great. Can you think of an inexpensive way to do this if you don't already have an android device (ie what are the costs of cheaper android devices)?

You can buy a used android phone on ebay or craigslist.

This is has evolved a lot. They are adding all the PIDS for the Prius. It does things like MG1 and MG2 speed. MG1 and MG2 temp and many specific Prius functions.

Torque runs on Android OS with a Bluetooth OBDII adapter. Not sure what ie4 is.

Check out this screen shot I took today using the latest version. It shows MG1, MG2, ICE RPMS and temp.

Very cool. Are those available only with paid version? Thanks.
