Since the serpentine belt was replaced, it is highly likely that the engine coolant pump was replaced (not the inverter coolant pump.)

They are refunding everything or just parts?

Mine cost $174.97 for parts, $414.00 for labor, and $14.44 for sales tax, totaling $603.41.

Also, if I paid by credit card, will the refund just be a credit to the card or an actual check?

Got my notice Thur. hum.. mine was done under extnd warranty two months back.. guess no refund for me... but was told I saved just under $300 replacing it... I replaced it because it throwed a code, and did not want to take a chance it failing and causing damage to the inverter.. code message was "performance of pump was not up to spec"

The part of the job pertaining to the pump replacement. That includes: Parts (Pump, gasket and coolant) and Labor.
    You were overcharged.
    Probably a check from Toyota.

    Patrick,

I have scheduled the Electric Hybrid Water Pump replacement for my 2005. I'm also considering replacing the Coolant Control Valve because I'm getting a P-1121 code. My question, should the labor hours be reduced for replacing the Coolant Control Valve? I hate to pay full labor if they already have easy access to the CCV due to the pump replacement. Any help is greatly appreciated

The coolant flow control valve is part of the engine coolant loop, which is separate from the inverter coolant loop. Therefore, you would not expect the tech's labor effort to be significantly diminished if the two jobs are performed at the same time.

    FYI

I took my car at 97,500 miles in to DCH Toyota of Oxnard for the recall notices - accelerator pedal and Electric Hybrid water pump. Service rep, Joshua, informed me that they would replace the inverter pump (Electric Hybrid Water Pump Replacement).

He also informed me that I would have to get the inverter pump coolant replaced for warranty purposes as they just pinch off the lines when replacing the pump and do not bleed the lines, so they sold me the (Replace Inverter and Engine Coolant on Hybrid Vehicle and Bleed System as needed) for $240.

When I went to pay and pick up the vehicle, they informed me that I also needed to replace the engine coolant. I intend to call the Dealer Service Manager and Toyota to confirm that this normal recall procedure. This is just a warning for other unsuspecting Prius owners responding to the recall.

I've got a 2007 and just got the notice. I've read all pages of the thread and couldn't find a consensus as to when would be the best time to take your car such that you take advantage of the work that has to already be done as part of the pump replacement. From reading the threads, most people taking their cars in are >100k miles already and most had their inverter coolants drained/refilled already and now again due to the pump replacement.

My question is, what about lower mileage? My 2007 is at 63k miles... I don't have any check engine lights on or anything, though my MPG has gone down from an average of 54mpg to lately 48. Might just be heavier footing on my part, but who knows. Anyhow, my question is, since the campaign says to take it in by 2013, should I wait until I hit closer to 100k miles, then get the service? I run about 15k+ / year. I'll probably be around 82k by this time next year.

By waiting, am I risking other parts of the vehicle? Also, am I running something less efficiently?

    Thanks!

If you refer to the Dealer Letter that was posted here:
    http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...ump-dealer-letter-technical-instructions.html

you will see that the dealer tech is supposed to drain and replace the inverter coolant as part of the recall, and that Toyota will reimburse the dealership for 1.4L of coolant. I recommend that you ask your service advisor why his dealership considers it to be ethical business practice to charge both the customer and Toyota for the same work.

Regarding the engine coolant, it is supposed to be replaced at 100K miles so it is reasonable for your service advisor to charge you for that work.

By waiting, you are running the risk of the inverter coolant pump failing at an inopportune moment, which might result in inverter failure.

Although your mpg may have declined, that has nothing to do with the inverter coolant pump - so you'll need to look elsewhere for the root cause.

Just have it done when you have the 65k service done.

I have a 2006 Prius. Just to be clear. Is code P1121 part of the Inverter Pump Service Campaign?

June 30, 2010: I inquired about Inverter Pump problems in Prius's at 100383 miles when I had coolant changes for both the Inverter and the combustion engine. No codes at that time, but I heard some noise that sounded like a pump cycling on and off when engine ready and sitting still or when engine ready and parked.

July 30, 2010, 102439 miles: I asked to check Inverter system because coolant was lower than when replaced on June 30. No codes. They bled system, tightened drain plug and topped it off. I still noticed Inverter coolant level dropped some more after that - possibly air in the system? I kept topping it off. Still heard pump noise. Could see turbulence in Inverter tank.

August 21, 2010 I had this repair done at 103823 miles:

    Cause: P1121
10TOZ06 R&R Water Valve Assy. (Coolant.)
    1- 16670-21010 Valve Assy, Water W/ $95.41
    1- 00272 - SLLC2 Super Long Life Coolant $25.72
    Labor $323.75
    Total for line: $444.88
+Disposal Fee and Shop Supplies for Repair Order $19.95

Less than a month later, September 8 of this year, check engine light on, was told I needed the Inverter pump replaced. Invoice said:

00 Replaced Invertor Water Pump Assy
    1- G9020 - 47031 Pump Assy, Water W/M $125.62
    1- 00272 - SLLC2 Super Long Life Coolant $25.72
    Labor: $182.00
    Total for Line: $333.34
+Disposal Fee and Shop Supplies for Repair Order $19.95

I would love to get reimbursed for both repairs. But I guess I would only be reimbursed for the Inverter Water Pump replacement as part of the current program. Do I have that right?

Thanks to all for sharing such good information in this forum.

Yes, as the coolant valve that was replaced is part of the engine coolant loop and has no relationship to the inverter coolant pump recall.

Patrick, I thought you'd get a hoot out of this. I had to laugh at my self ... senior moment. I'd planed on changing my serpentine belt right after the Pump recall was complete. Now THAT's being a numbskull. :D
Only about a week after finishing the belt change did I begin to do the math, and think THAT one through. "HEY ... they didn't even ASK about the obviously glazed and cracked belt!" So ... I'm trying to figure out who was dumber ... Power Toyota of Irvine, or me. (shaking head)
    :p

When I lived in south OC, my preference was to go to either Tustin or RSM Toyota. I also was not impressed with Irvine Toyota.

I plan to do that very thing. In another post of mine I complained about the Stealership (nice ring to it). I'll have to amend my post.

Our 2004 (108K) and 2006 (50K) were done this week. Glad I didn't decide to do a 'preemptive' replacement around 100K on the '04 as some had done. I did have the coolant changed on the '04 at 95K a few months ago so I kind of lost out there. The service guy said they have never EVER replaced a failed inverter coolant pump and they have sold a lot of Prii starting with the first '01 sold in Vermont.

This place did the accelerator chop off recall when I had the car in at 95K even though I didn't ask them to. I had forgotten about it because I had NO intention of having them do something that was unnecessary. If they don't touch it, they can't break it! :) The service guy said Toyota would get on them if they found the car had been in and the recall wasn't done. We Prius owners know it is NOT needed and is of NO VALUE. When we took the '06 in on Wed the guy asked what was being done and I said "the inverter pump and I image you'll do the accelerator pedal even though it isn't necessary". He said they did NOT have to do it if I didn't want it done so they didn't. :) Saved them time and us the potential for them screwing up something.

I got the recall done, should I assume they changed the coolant as well?
