    Correct for both, despite radius has nothing to do, but width!
    It is more stable, I presume, but do we need that in a normal riding (98% of the time?). I does increase costs, in replacement, wears more rapidly, and (at least) 0,1l/100.
    Toyota has made a marketing error here. It should stick with 15inch, and giving in option a 16inch set, max 205. It would allow to change back and forth, with only one steering system (in fact there are two systems nowadays). :mad:

    Personally...I wouldn't buy the car without the 17" wheels purely for aesthetic purposes...

    after two test drive... (short both of them)
    after though negotiations... both at home and dealer
    after long hours unable to sleep... thinking about the packs

    I´ve made my choice

    Hey congrat on choosing a great car.
    Here is another great thing about Prius. When you drag off a sports car in your Prius you can brag to your friends, but when a sports car drags off a Prius no one wants to know.

    Hi Jlanrod,

    I am reading this thread only today and I have seen you have already taken your decision. I have a mid-trim (similar to yours, I believe) with 17" alloy wheels. I think you will find interesting these 2 (the first is a *long* read):

    I am an Italian living in Germany since 10 years, who has been driving manual gearshift (and several different types of cars) since getting the driver's license 20 years ago. The Prius is the first automatic I ever owned. I don't think I will drive anything else in the future. And the Automatic of the Prius is quite different than a CVT and any automatic out there. There is no lag, and there is no clutch or hydraulic coupling letting the engine rev-up without anything happening.

    The car is bigger than a Golf inside, and all passengers I have had so far in the back never complained about available space. Quite the contrary. The trunk space is plenty for everyday, I have always manage to put stuff in. I am single with no wife/kids so I cannot judge in case of travelling with plenty of luggage, but my parents and my brother used to have a Ritmo and a Fiat 127 in the 70s - 80s and we always managed. Surely if you look for the space and flexibility of a station wagon....forget it...

    Regarding driving at 140km/h (displayed, which means about 130km/h in reality) or at least at EU driving speeds, you might want to check my post here - very recent - here.

    I think my review should answer most of your questions - and my other posts also regarding stability, etc.
    As for safety, NCAP 5 star rating and all the servo assists and airbags everywhere should be enough...

    It will be interesting to know if the solar roof option will make a difference for you in summer. I did not get it because living in Germany is not really necessary ;) and I really wanted the 17" wheels for additional stability.

    Thank you very much for your words. I must admit that I had already read your blog and found it very interesting and in some manner very inspiring to the point that I would say half of the purchasing decision was based on your intensive review of the technology involved in the car and the fact it managed really nice on autobahn.

    I´ve been driving my renault in spanish roads (not so flat tarmac) on weekend trips making 1000km each weekend one after another and speeding at 150 km/h as long as the road conditions allowed, and I´m sure at this speed there are little chances to scape uninjured from an accident, so prius will be a good excuse to drive in lower speeds. May I have some abstinence syndrome when I make longer trips wanting to arrive not soon but NOW.

    Wish you keep updating your blog and giving us, the switchers, the best keys for successing in the use of our new car.
