With great sadness, I left my loyal, trusty 96 Civic sitting lonely and cold last week in the Toyota lot, as I drove off in my 2010 blizzard pearl II. I feel a tad bit guilty to already be in such love with the new car. After about 6 months of research, (the Prius Chat forums were extremely helpful), it was perfect timing, seeing as the gas prices are going up again. But the main reason I got one, is that this is the car of the future. I'm enamored of the hybrid technology, only wish I was an engineer so I could really understand it. Living on the Florida Gulf coast, the recent BP oil volcano is what enraged me enough to not want to give any more money than is absolutely necessary to those oil guys, no matter what country the oil comes from! Electric cars are great, but in the southeast, the electricity comes mostly from coal-fired power plants, which aren't much better. Maybe when I'm ready for my next Prius, they will come out with the first solar-powered engine! ~Loving the new baby.
Congrats. We just passed our 1st anniversary with our Blizzard Pearl III and love it at 19,000 miles and 50.1 mpg actual, even though we have a 1.5 mile commute.
Congrats and welcome to PriusChat. I'm certain you'll benefit from Blizzard White there in Florida even though Barcelona Red is the best color ever! There's lots to learn from your owner's manual, driving your car and engaging the forum here. Happy Motoring, Tom
Thanks Tom, I love the red, but was afraid that the FL sun would fade it to a pink. The manual was daunting at first, but I managed to read it all in a couple days.
addygene - welcome to the Prius' Owners Club and to Priuschat. If you want to read more about how the Prius works, in addition to all that you find here in Priuschat, you might want to read this or also some of the articles linked here.
i'm close to the blizzard pearl color....but it's more of a winter gray with rock salt ice melt pearl on top lol. It's supposed to be 45 this weekend, so I think I may give her a good bubble bath and rub down
Welcome. You must be really serious. I think you're only the third person who has ever admitted that they have read the Owner's Manual BEFORE some nagging little question comes up or warning light comes on. There is a whole lot more to learn than is in the manual. You have come to the right place. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Spend some time using the search function, you'll be glad you did.
You have me beat. Then again, you get more snow fall and muck to drive through than we do here. I like the grill block - same thing I did, except I didn't extend all the way across. I only covered the open area, and used black cable ties. One year I had white cable ties(ok, slightly yellow because they're like 10 years old) on my blue HCHII. Looked kinda funny and stood out quite a bit.

The links you provided, especially the "10 Months in the Future, Driving a Prius in Germany" were exactly the kind of information I am interested in. Very informative! (The forum just informed me that I can't post URL links so I had to remove them from your quote above.) I'm still ecstatic with my new car and just want to drive all the time....
Welcome addygene! and eeh: 1.5 mile commute??? I hope you are gaining some MPG by keeping your Prius in your driveway? No?
Hey Gene! I hope you enjoy your new Prius! It's very comfortable, is it not? Is this your second car?
