I just bought a used 2008 prius and was hoping I could get some help on an audio issue.

I have an auxilary output in the armrest, and have connected it to the audio output in my ipod classic (120gb) using a 1/8" to 1/8 plug". However, even with the ipod and car volume both all the way up, I can barely hear any sound. I can hear it playing just SLIGHTLY, so I know it's getting the signal, but it's so low it's basically inaudible.

Audio on the radio and CD player are just fine, and my ipod sounds just fine through headphones.

Is there something I'm doing wrong, or is the audio system in the car defective?

There is a TSB to replace the jack and install an isolation transformer. Your dealer will do it for free if you let them know about it. [Here's] a copy of the TSB, just print it and take with you.

I think this might be a different issue. This report says the issue has to do with noise coming from the auxilary port. I dont have an issue with static or noise or anything like that, the volume is just too low.

Also, the car is not under warranty. Any estimate how much this would cost to repair out of warranty?

I still would suggest they do it cause you have to think about it, its in a TSB.. so let them do it for free anyway.. Can't hurt since it doesn't exaclty work right?..

Yes, the noise is taken care of by the isolation transformer, but the jack is also known to have problems, which is why they replace it as well as adding the transformer. I suspect you simply have a bad jack.
