Speakers?

I want to upgrade my speakers in my 2007 Prius. I might just replace the front door ones. I plan to eventually try to add a sub somewhere in the car.

My question for you is, what speakers have you used to replace the stock door ones? I believe they are 6 & 1/2 inch speakers and I am considering a component system but I am worried that the stock radio won't have enough power for them. It looks like I have tweeters mounted in the door column or at least a space for tweeters.

So far I have looked online at Polk, Infinity, Sony, and Pioneer.

    Thanks,
    Glenn

Wow, nobody here has upgraded their speakers? Hard to believe. I guess maybe I will be the guinea pig.

I used Infiniti due to efficiency. I have reference cs in the front and kappa in the back. For the tweeters, I replaced the stock ones. I had to shave the plastic holder to fit since it was slightly bigger. Yes, stock amp sux but you'll notice improvement with new speakers.

I also have a thin sub under passenger seat. See links in my sig for more info.

Thanks for the info. The Infinity speakers that you used are now discontinued but they have newer models. I have enjoyed Infinity speakers in cars before.

I like your Sub under the seat. I may look info that option but I am not sure how I would wire it with my stock radio. I will have to look into that.

    Thanks,
    Glenn

    Give this link a try:

I've used that guide several times, and most of it should still apply to your '07.

The stock stereo sucks for it's power output, but it'll still give you better sound if you upgrade the speakers. I recommend doing a search in this forum. Replacing speakers has been discussed to death, and you'll likely find the answer you're looking for instead of waiting for a response.

I added a head unit, amp, and new front and rear speakers (boston acoustic sc60 components up front and the other cheaper BA speakers in the rear).

That combination proved to be too much juice for the component speakers up front and I popped a tweeter :(

I think you will definitely hear a difference with new speakers, so you might as well go for a decent pair of component speakers, since the car has the placements for tweeters built in anyway. And then think about upgrading in the future. It just depends on your listening need/style. The stock speakers are really junk IMO, but it takes a lot of different components to get the prius to sound good.

If you get cheap speakers now, then decide you need more later, you end up losing out. If you spend more now you might be fine, if you decide to upgrade stereo.

Search the audio forum there are lots of people on this message board that have aftermarket audio equipment that is pretty well documented.

i have polk components in the front doors. i wouldn't even bother with the rear speakers (i might just disconnect mine) as it makes for better staging.

tweeter placement really is essential, the prius tweeter housing is probably not the best place to put your tweeters. You can do it though. I used 6.5" mid-woofers for the front doors.

I just put a system in my Prius yesterday. I have the factory tweeters as well as the front/rear factory speakers running off my headunit (Sony CDX-GT930UI). I have a 300W Boston Acoustics amp powering a 10" RE sub. It sounds pretty good to me and none of the voices are muffled.

I just ordered a clarion 5 1/4 component for the front and Sony 6 1/2 two ways for the back from crutchfield on sale, came out to 130 with free shipping. Next I'm going to order the pioneer u310bt head unit from amazon on sale right now for 300 with PAC swi steering wheel control interface to retain stock control. I might even see if I can buy the buttons that go on the right side of the steering wheel to control the blue tooth.

I'll post pics next week after the install. Hopefully everything will work out as planned.
