A dash cam would certain narrow down the suspects, but it seems the actual instant of vandalism would be out of its view, so it would not be proof that the actual damage occurred at the same time.

The broadcast Hummer video was taken from cameras mounted on the underside of the rearview mirrors, so it showed the actual key-to-paint contact.

Do they have systems like the one you mentioned already built? I'll have to search for the online. The only problem with that would be that there is not one spot I could park in which would have no cars on both sides. Every available spot is taken the 99% of the time, So, the people parked on my right side would definitely set it off trying to get into their car. I'll look around online though. Thanks.

That one made me laugh! Let me just say, we have a union there, so firing somebody takes an act of Congress. I could tell you stories you would not believe!!!! ;)

OK. I just wrote myself a reminder on a post it note and stuck it to my work badge to talk to HR & security when we go back to work.

Monday through Thursday are holidays for us, but we're working (paying people triple time, except us salaried people). So, I don't know if the front office (HR) will be staffed, but they will be the following Monday, after New Years. I will definitely go in a little early Monday and talk to security.

    Thanks

Seriously? That's awesome! Imagine how much money's work of damage he did!

I do have a reserved space, which I am not using because everyone knows where my space is. I may be able to get my reserved space moved though. I'll ask. Thank you

I see what you're saying. I know that the cameras I saw were adjustable. I could get two and turn one to each side of the car. But, I don't know how much that would drain my battery leaving 2 cameras on for 10 or 11 hours at a time. Also, without the key to paint contact recorded, it may still be hard to prove, as you said.

By the way, was it the rearview mirror or the exterior side view mirrors?

It's sad to say but my wife's Prius got keyed in a parking lot. The entire passenger side needs to be repainted. It will cost $1000. It was so deep there is no way to just touch it up. It is a leased car so we have to get it fixed. Not a happy day for her. The only thing she did wrong was she was driving a Prius.

    Blue Prius Texan,

Remember two years ago in nearby Southlake, an older guy had keyed dozens of Hummers? He turned himself in a few days later after the security camera's record was posted on YouTube.

On a tangent, he has not gone to trial yet, but while I expect defense attorneys to exclude me, if he did it I'd want the book thrown at him regardless what vehicle he keyed - period.

No, I honestly don't remember that. I actually don't have cable or satellite TV, so I get more of the national and international news on the internet and not much of the local news.

Until they offer to let me choose 5 to 10 channels that I want, without having 100 other channels that I don't want, I refuse to give them my money.

I drove through Southlake yesterday on my way to the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine. Went to see the ice sculptures. Awesome!

I'm going to look up those videos now. Thanks!

The best solution is to buy a old Prius for a few thousand dollars and drive it to work. Save your '10 Prius for weekend pleasure trips.
No camera can stop someone who is angry at you and wants to take revenge.

True. But then I'd have FOUR vehicles (my daughter's car, my 96 silverado, my new Prius, and then another one...)...that would be getting rather expensive....

The YouTube videos of the H2 keying have been removed, but one of my links has enough still pictures to tell the story - i.e. he's nailed.

My guess is his lawyers may have settled damages out of court - enough to really "key up" his retirement. ;)

Sorry to hear that you, personally, are being targeted. That is very strange. It's even more terrible to hear that it happens at your place of employment.

Yes, most advanced systems can have the microwave detector added. It won't be a problem with people parking next to you, but it might annoy them. However it occurs to me that if they are of the same mentality as your keyer, they may also become your enemies simply because of your alarm. You can always forgo the microwave detector and just add the HF vibration detector which will only go off if someone actually keys it. In that case install a really f**king loud Whelen or FS 30 watt siren with it instead of what comes with the system. This is what you'd find on an emergency vehicle. Everyone in the plant will hear it if it goes off! It also is so unbelievably loud when standing next to the car that it immediately causes people doing bad things to run on impulse no matter how tough they are. Just be sure the siren is set to no more than 30 seconds per trip.

It sounds like you are a very capable woman, so you might have the skills to install it yourself, otherwise you might have to locate someone skilled with electronics. Seems like there are going to be a good smattering of such people at Lockheed Martin, so maybe you know someone already? If you end up deciding to do it yourself, I recommend you get on techinfo.toyota.com and save all the wiring PDF's for your car, it's a pain to get them all, but worth it.

I'd be happy to offer my services if I was going to be in TX longer, but I'm heading out soon. Probably won't be back to visit until spring or summer, and by then it sounds like you might not have any paint left!

    Guess someone reposted the video.

It happened at Southlake HS - home of the Green Dragons
