Wards Auto has announced its 10 Best Engine Winners for 2011. This year two EVs made it to the top – Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt extended-range EV.
Thank you for the info. Really, does make you think, when awards are given before proven service. Sounds that there has been much evolution since last year! 1.8l Atkinson from Prius got overtaken by all of the 2011 top ten engines!!! 2010 Ward's 10 Best Engines Fair enough?
yup telmo, I guess 13 years of proven service on a new technology that toyota has perfected for mainstream use in the most fuel efficient car in the world is not good enough.. Hmmm, wonder who pays their advertising in the magazine.
"new or improved engines for 2011". So no, the Prius engine won't be in there. The current one is a 2010 design, and the GII engine is a 2004 design. Saw a poster in a Hyundai showroom of their new V8 that made the list. Very impressive. Gas guzzler of course, but cool just the same. I -really need- 400 HP to drive on public roads!!!
Ward's certainly isn't based on reliability, heck those Cadillac Northstar engines made the list and they are one serious POS in terms of longevity.
Mind my post, but "Winners from the 2010 competition automatically were eligible and evaluated against the new engines" as quoted from Ward’s Names 10 Best Engines Winners
