Purchased our 2010 Prius in May, 2009, have nearly 41,000 miles. Change oil after the intial 5,000 change every 10,000 miles with only 4 quarts to the crackcase so not to overfill. No problems so far, we do our own maintaince. Our average MPG, calculated is estimated at 47 MPG. MPG's are usually in the low 50's in the summer to mid 40's in the winter. My wife drives our car about 90% of the time and she does not drive for MPG. I usually get about 5 MPG's more than her when I drive. If I could see a change I would like to see engine hours also added to the computer system as there are times the engine never runs. Also a fuel tank with maybe 16-18 gallons to give it at least a true 600 mile range would be ideal. just my thoughts al
I purchased my 2010 Prius IV in Oct 09 and now have over 47,000 miles. So far zero repairs. I feel bad for those that wasted the money on an extended warranty. My average MPG's is around 55. In the summer I can get over 60 MPG. I do not recommended only 4 quarts. Fill it to the center of the marks on the stick. That is how much the car needs. No not over fill and do not assume that 4 quarts is enough. I normally put 4.4 to 4.6 quarts in.
Yes, I was concerned at first with 4 quarts. But after 10,000 miles the oil level is still within the marks on the dip stick. al
I have a 2007 and a 2010 my 2007 in the summer avg MPG 54 winter 47 the 2010 summer is 59.1 and winter so far is 58. i live in Denver so the batteries are subjected to cold night time temps which should have an impact on winter mpg. couldn't be happier with the 2010 i am expecting to break 60 next summer. i have gone to nitrogen and found that i did not have the correct tire pressure. now i am running at 36psi.
You may feel sorry for those who paid for ext. warranties, Judgeless, but you also do a lot of highway driving. It might be more useful to those who don't. ;-)
I disagree. Someone that put a lot of highway miles on fast is a good reflection on what will happen to others that do not over time. The only difference would be corrosion and rust. I do not see that happening over 10 years if you keep your car semi clean. I do post my view on extended warranties over and over in these threads. I hope other will read what I post and not waste their money. Toyota makes the most reliable cars in the world. Do not waste your money on an extended warranty. If you did, maybe it will be a lesson learned.
Perhaps, Judgeless, but stop and start driving might render wear and tear greater by the time that mileage is reached. I know, I know, it won't matter 9 times out of 10 with a Toyota. ;-)
