2010 Prius Block Heater Instructions

I would contact Wayne (username fire engineer) on this blog. He is a kindhearted Prius expert who will make housecalls across the country trying to help folks, by installing these for them. Best of all, he is in Illinois, and may be able to help you soon? (I do not make his schedule, ask him).

That said, if you could please let me know what you paid for it, as I would love to get one myself, and will ask Wayne to assist me too!

Well I've have been a bit busy. The instructions Hobbit posts are similar to those from Toyota, remove the entire windshield cowl. The under car method is much easier and with much less disassembly. Your choice really. But do block up your grill right now and it will help.

Anyone know what the power rating for the engine block heater is? Being in Europe I'd have to run it through a 220/110 converter and I'd like to know if the one I have is "beefy" enough.

 

You can get a block heater designed for European voltage in parts of Europe. Google is your friend. The ones I found on line mount flat against the back of the block on a machined area by a rear engine mount.

Thanks for the information. However, I was interested in the original Toyota part, to avoid problems with warranty etc. I'm currently inquiring with Toyota in Denmark/Norway/Sweden as to the availability and price of a 220 V version, but if nothing's available (or if the price is stratospheric), I'll take the US/CAN 110V version - and that's why I'd like to know the wattage.

 

Is there not a version for the Gen2 prius?

 

Hi folks,
we just got our Prius last week and are already in love. Now we are looking into an engine block heater but need installation. Even though I fiddle around with my old motorcycle, I am hesitant to mess up my Prius.

Is there anybody around Ann Arbor, MI, who you could recommend for the job? We are willing to drive a bit but with out newborn that's always a task.

Any help is appreciated.

Under car method

I was not aware of this, I did it the Toyota way last weekend and must say that it was no fun. Took me 3 or 4 hours and I even cut my thumb in the process . But at least, I'm beginning to see the benefit of the block heater on my mileage now. :cheer2:

 

Bought my Prius 2010 in May and now that the cold weather has hit the northeast (I'm in Albany, NY) I am confronted with how long it takes the car to heat. I stumbled on this conversation about the engine block heater and am thinking that this is the way to go. So, 2 questions - my dealer (Lia Toyota) has never heard of an engine block heater so I wondered if anyone could suggest a place in my area I could get it installed, and, a more stupid question - I park on the street - is there any way to use the heater without running an extension cord from my house out to the street? Any information/feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you from chilly Albany, NY!

 

The only way I can think of do this is buying a gas generator and leaving it on the street beside the car

Does anyone sell precut lower grill covers for 2010 Prius III? If, not, I'll use pip[e insulation> Is 1" best?

 

Actually have been unable to find anyone in my area (DC-Baltimore) who knows how to install an engine block heater in a 2010 Prius. Help
