I am very much interested in getting the Fog lights installed on my 2010 Prius. I enquired about it at the local Toyota Dealer. I was told that they cannot be installed. Is it true? Also want some advice on having the head lights replaced with White lights which are more brighter and give a very distinctive look. The bulb is not that expensive, but the dealer tells me that it would take less than an hour to get them installed and they would charge the normal hourly rate. How difficult is it to have them installed by a third party? To be frank, i am not a DYI guy and i dont want to see any damage done by trying to do it myself.
The dealership is correct... Toyota does not offer a Fog Light Kit for the Prius, however, you can purchase an OEM quality Fog Light kit right here through the PriusChat Store. Search the site and you'll find plenty of reviews and tips on the installation of these kits. They are relatively inexpensive (compared to what a dealership would charge if they were available) and not hard to install if you have basic skills and tools. If you're not comfortable with this type of install, or like me was leery about tearing into my brand new car, I found a local audio shop who happily did the installation for me way cheaper than the dealership would have charged... The headlights are definately a do it yourself project and the instructions are in the owner's manual. Access to the back of the headlight my be the biggest challenge, but other than that, just pop out the old and pop in the new and your done. The owner's manual also lists the proper size bulb (I don't recall what is is off the top of my head).
I installed the PriusChat OEM quality Fog Light kit last weekend and am very happy with it. I agree with Paul58... an audio shop should be able to install this if you buy it.
Same here. Love the Fog lights and just installed mine last week. Take your time, do it right and it will look like it came from the factory that way. Even the dash switch looks OEM.
I agree with what everybody else has posted. But to give you an alternative, this is one installation where you can start it, and if you find it too difficult, you can just take it to a third-party installer to finish it up. Once you get the fog lights (or even before), look at the instructions. See the below link and scroll down a little. PriusChat Shop : 2010 Toyota Prius Fog Light Kit - OEM Quality [PIPL-40C] - $139.99$114.99 I read through the instructions a few times with the equipment in my hands and mentally went through the install. You should be able to install the fog lights onto the bumper if you have a proper ramp (Kragen Auto was selling these for $30) or jack stands. I wouldn't suggest that you crawl under the car if you are only using a jack as I find that to be unsafe. The removal of the underside of the dash can be a little scary, but as long as you are gentle and do it according to the instructions, you shouldn't have much of a problem. The only part that messed me up was the part where you find the brown wire and connect it with the red wire (see the instructions). I didn't like the connector that came with the lights, so I went to Radio Shack and bought some T-Tabs. Others had no problem with this step. If you don't know what a T-Tab is (I certainly didn't until I installed the lit doorsill which supplies the T-Tabs), when you open the dash, you will see a bunch of these connected to the wires that are already there. Also, if you have any problems with the install, just ask the people here. They were very helpful. But maybe the best thing to do is have somebody ready who can do this for you in case you find you can't do it yourself. Mike
