Well, I'd do that just to jerk his chain.

I also saw a cop tailing a woman in the left lane. She just wouldn't move over. I saw the cop was out of his jurisdiction and he was simply, as cops do, wanting to drive fast (that ticks me off). I was in my 350Z and decided (I've always wanted to do this) pass him on the right while he followed the woman. I was doing 105 mph when I passed him. Unfortunately they changed the law and now cops, even out of their jurisdiction can arrest people, and I assume that would be for traffic violations. Won't test that issue.

NOPE- it's NOT you-people are just driving more poorly than ever. I've noticed the past few weeks. I'm at the point where I don't want to drive at all on the weekends......

Yup noticed that it happens more often when I drive my prius than my other cars. I will keep up with traffic but leave a 3-4 car length in front of me as a buffer, but people still can't stand it and cut over and wedge back in. Even when I'm in the right lane (I hardly drive in the left lane).

Sometimes I can just accelerate a little just to stuff them and prevent them from being able to cut in, but after a while I figure, what's the point. If you stuff them, they'll cut back behind you and tail gate you. High beams and all. Or that'll trigger them to do something stupid, like pass and cut you on the breakdown lane. And plus if I have to accelerate to stuff him, that just means I'm wasting more gas. Its just not worth it.

I'm with barbaram. I'm still waiting for my Prius to arrive so I'm puttering around in my Audi A4. I'm often disgusted by the behavior of some drivers on the road. I'm a fairly conservative driver with a slight lead foot <g>. I try to keep a reasonable distance away from the car in front of me, going with the flow, and other drivers see that as an invitation to cut in. Yesterday, doing 75 +/- on the highway in the middle lane with the left lane open, an SUV sat on my bumper anyway. Then there are the times you're stuck in a line of traffic with no where to go and someone sits on your butt. What the heck do they expect? I recently watched a car in the left lane zoom across two lanes to take an exit, nearly clipping the person in the right lane. None of the cars involved was a Prius. Unfortunately, bad drivers are everywhere and seem to be multiplying rapidly. I keep an eye out for the idiots on the road and let the speeders go by - hoping they get caught by a cop up ahead. Once in awhile, it happens and I smile as I drive on.

This is where self awareness lets you understand we're somewhat all the same. How many times do we speed up just so they will get stuck and have to pull in behind us when all along we really don't want them tailgateing us? Let them pass and tail the other person.

I have, and this administration is out to bankrupt our entire economic outlook in the next two years. Check out the projected debt outlook to fund all the proposed nonsense.

Honestly, we cannot leave our grandchildren to clean up our mess. No country has ever spent there way out of a recession (and we will not either).

People need to stop reading political talking points, get off their duffs, do some research, and start holding politicians on both sides of the aisle accountable.

BTW, the current administration is against Nuclear power. You do not see anyone of note mention it when they talk about taxing fossil fuels out of existence.

no I might be slower of the line, but thats not when i'm having this problem. It's in heavy traffic on the highway. I don't drive any differently, today i was going 85 in a 60 just to keep up with traffic. I don't slow people down i just like a little room infront of me so i don't rear end people.

100% untrue and 100% offtopic. Sorry, but you lost all credibility with that comment.

Sorry if you do not like the truth. There has been a void of support for including Nuclear power from the current administration.

They are quite happy to Tax business on energy (guess they forgot to mention that we are already the second highest taxed nation in the world, they seem to be out to make us No#1), but no mention on supporting new Nuclear power plants.

BTW, where is your support for your argument? (There does not seem to be any in the Cap and Tax bill). I'm not the one with the creditability problem here, mate.

Here are some facts your talking points on Huffington Post forgot to mention:

Now, back to our regularly scheduled broadcast:

I think drivers in general are getting more rude, arrogant, and frankly, dangerous. I really do not think we Pruis owners get any more or less grief than any other smaller to midsized car.

I noticed this immediately after I got my Prius and continue to notice this as I drive in Los Angeles. I agree that it's because people think Priuses are slower (yes, due to it's 10.9 sec 0-60 and to the hypermilers). It's quite a contrast to my previous car, which was an aggressive looking 2008 Audi TT roadster. People would move out of my lane if I was anywhere near them. I admit I drove faster on the freeway with the TT, but on the local streets my speeds have been similar. So now when I get cut off, I just brake later than usual so they know I was going faster than they expected.

Let's face it, everyone gets cut off no matter what car you are driving (except for the Batmobile).

    Newb here,
    2010 Prius V -
Just want to say I'm doing my best to dispel the image of Prius drivers being hyper-miling slugs. Folks here (I drive the Bos-Wash corridor, periodically commuting from north of B'more to DC) and have experienced some of the passing/cutting in front behavior, but find I can drive heavy footed (i.e. being able to launch from stops quickly and maintain vigilant distance from car-in-front) while maintaining decent/good mileage (better than 40mpg). Exactly why I got the Gen III V.

Please realize that cutting in front of other drivers and passing is instinctive behavior. Once you realize this, it is much easier to tolerate. Ask me how I know.

I think some drivers just assume when they're following a Prius, they're going too slow. That happens to me every now and then, but when I pull over to let them go around, they don't because they realize they're already going faster than the speed limit.

i may be the single cause of all of these problems, but i make no apology for driving the speed limit and respecting the rules of the road.:thumb:

    George Carlin had it right.
Anybody who is driving slower than you is an idiot, and anybody who is driving faster than you is a maniac. Forum rules prevent a more accurate quote.

When I'm in my truck, I actually like being in back of a Prius. They're little. I can see over and around them.

When I'm in the Prius, I always try and drive with some consideration for the other people on the road. Let's face it....there's enough "Prius hate" out there already!
Yeah, I get tailgated at times...but the view out of the back glass is pretty poor, and they're easy to ignore. :D

One thing I have noticed is that some people insist on driving the speed limit, no matter what lane they are in. This is just plain wrong. If you are driving the speed limit, but the rest of traffic is moving along at a faster speed than you, you should at least keep right. Does anyone remember the posted highway signs that say, "Slower traffic keep right"?. Have a clue!!!

I'm not just attacking you but everyone with these views.
Slower traffic means people that are going uder the speed limit. You and most people think that the right lane is for "slow people" aka people that follow the laws and speed limits, and the left lanes are for speeders.

I think speed limits are just fine, people don't need to go faster than them. Speeding and people driving in a hurry is a major cause of accidents. So is drinking and driving. Should we also allow that in the left lanes and let people not drinking use the right lanes?

    1. To me speeding and changing lanes and following to close to me should be covered under a law that your threating me with intent to harm/kill me with a deadly weapon. Maybe it should be a felony in extreme situations. aka road rage

    2. Speeding laws need to be better inforced. Nobody is more important than anybody else. To many people die because of people that are self centered and are in a hurry and put there 5 minutes of time that their running behind before tha safety of other americans. I would like speeding tickets to be a bigger threat to speeders. $100 for the first ticket, $500 for the second, $1000 for the third, and on a fourth time the car should be took from the owner and sold at auction and used to pay for more law enforcement to prevent more speeders. Even if they have a 20k loan on the car, so that way they can still pay the 20k loan off when they never will have the car again, maybe after that they will learn. Also i only want cops/highway patrol doing it , not computers taking pictures.

    3. Most people do this behind the wheel of their car, but would never have the balls to do this to me in a store, I have yet seen a person swear at me ride their shopping cart a foot behind me, then cut infront of me in the check out line. This shows me they are cowards that hide behind a deadly weapon!

    4. Everybody has all the solutions and know all the problems with america. I think this is part of the biggest problem here, lack of respect of others, and being celf centered and the biggest of all greed!!!

Believe what you want, there are no laws against acting stupid. Just remember that there are two types of speed limit signs on the highway. The sign that is posted with a MAXIMUM speed and the ones that do not say MAXIMUM. The ones that do not have the maximum posted below are the posted SAFE speed limit, it is OK to drive faster than the posted SAFE speed limit, when the sign says MAXIMUM, just do as the law tells you to. And for what its worth, you do not even know when to use the word too versus to. I can't expect that you might do well reading traffic signs anyway. It is possible for people driving slower than the flow of traffic to receive a ticket for impeding the flow of traffic.Flame suit on!!! PS you should always capitalize America with a capital A. Shame on you.

    Hi kd6hdx,

This is the basic problem with car-pool lanes, which are really speeders lanes. So, what about people who have the right to them, but do not want to drive at 80 mph (is that an exageration?) ?

After the accident I was in, I came to the conclusion that all right hand / ramp lanes (some ramps on the the left around here) should be strictly enforced at 55 mph.

Now, I am thinking that with such enforcement, the advantage of car-pool lanes is negligable, and they could be abolished. But, maybe that is a incompletely formed idea at this point.
