Hey, I am about to inheirate an 04 prius as my first car. I hate the soundsystem in it, and want to replace it. What would I need to make it sound great?
    Here is what I wanted,

New Speakers... What speakers are good and should I replace the front and back or just the front ones?

Tweeters? what should I do about these?

Subwoofer/s? Can I put some in the trunk? What would I need.

Amp? I haven't the slightest about this.

Ability to play my Ipod on it? I have an Iphone 4.

    Thanks for your help.

Do you happen to know if it already has the upgraded JBL system?

Mine came with the 9-Speaker JBL system already in it, so it was rather easy to upgrade the speakers and add subs. For the speakers, I just ripped out the old ones and put new, higher quality JBLs.

Then I just tapped into the lines going to the factory amp under the passenger seat and used a hi to lo to tie in the subs.

The non-jbl stereo is the easiest to upgrade. Since I started without jbl I will make recommendations from that platform.

    I recommend:
Replace the factory stereo with a quality single DIN stereo and install it in the cubby below the factory stereo. Do a search for stealth stereo in this forum. I can't link from my phone.

Replace the front speakers With a quality 6.5" component set. Leave the rear speakers stock and use the money saved to install a powered subwoofer or a real amplifier and subwoofer. Do a search for subwoofer in this forum. There are lots of options depending on how much bass You want. :)

I agree with F8L, just upgrade the front speakers. It will save you money two-fold.

It really isn't necessary to have nice speakers in the rear. After all, where would the sound be coming from in a concert?

Secondly, you can buy a 4 channel amp and have 2 channels going to your front speakers, and bridge the last 2 channels to power your subwoofer. This is a very cost-effective method to upgrading your sound system.
