New Cargo Net Position Still a Problem (?)

Based on the pics in this post (also shown below, hope you don't mind Bryan):
http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...resolution-panel-separation-8.html#post945747 showing the new Prius' place for the cargo net to hook to the car, it appears it is still causing separation of panels. Do you think the bolt was just tightened too much or is this still an issue?

My car is about to hit the port and I'm thinking I should pay the difference in price for the cargo net and get it from the dealer so that they install it and I can hold them liable for it if it happens in my car.

Can any others who have the net at this point post if their panels are uneven?

No worries on reposting the pics -- I don't mind at all!

I can see where it appears that the panel is separating in the first pic, but that is not the case at all. It is more of a situation of where the bottom piece is secured so solid that that top piece appears loose. However, the bolt and hook (where the net connects), is solid as a rock. Perhaps my plastic pieces weren't lined up to begin with and that is why it appears to be off. But in reality, it is very solid and the fact that the plastic pieces don't line up is hardly noticeable. This is one of those cases where pictures do not do justice. It really isn't a problem in my book.

    Food for thought,
    Bryan

Okay, thanks for the info. I know it's no where near as bad as the original problem but I figure if I'm plunking down $30k for a new car I want to make sure it's just right.

Would still love to hear from others....

That's fine. The new position is much stronger (I assume since there's a screw there originally). The hook isn't the most elegant (compared to the OEM part) but it works.

hmmm....is the cargo net worth what you paid for it? I'm thinking about having one installed when I take my car in for its free 5K oil change.

What did you pay for it?

It was a $51 port-installed accessory on my car. I use a collapsible plastic box to hold groceries, etc., and it is tied to the net. That is effective for keeping stuff from sliding forward (Weathertech cargo liner is not so sticky), and the box seems less hassle than the four-hooks-on-the-floor net.

It's an individual call. Personally, I never use mine on my Gen II. Nor did I use the one I had on my previous car. I don't like the way it blocks entrance into the cargo area when it's up. For me, life is easier with cargo boxes.

Cargo Net is not as good IMO, compared to the Storage Divider

I purchased the storage divider at my dealer ($45.00), approx, and I find I use it all the time when shopping, and it has compartments.

There are 4 in it, large enough to hold a large grocery bag, and you can mod it with the dividers and it holds things quite nicely. In fact I like it so much I am planning on getting a 2nd one, and they will fit comfortably in the hatch area side by side and still have room.

So far love it far more than the Cargo nets in my past cars...;)

I have a cargo net in my 2006 and 2010 Prius. Honestly, I never use them...

I ran across this at Harbor Freight. It folds up to the like a soft sided briefcase. And easily fits in the cargo area under the floor.

    Overall dimensions:

    (Open) 14-1/4" L x 23-1/4" W x 12-1/8" H

    ( Collapsed) 14-1/4" L x 2-1/2" W x 12-1/8" H

    Compartment dimensions: 12-1/2" L x 11-1/8" W x 9-3/8" deep

Best $10 I ever spent on an auto accessory. :)

After getting it I've been rethinking the need for the cargo net.

That's the nicest cargo box I've seen. Thanks for the link!

I ended up emailing my dealer last night to have him add the cargo net at the port and got an email today saying it's too late. I think I'm glad.

You did better than I did. I ordered one and then called the dealer and ask him to cancel it, he told me it was to late so I have one I didn't want.

I agree. Blocking the entrance to the cargo area doesn't help. Don't know whether this will work on your GII, but on my GIII I hang the cargo net off the back of the rear seat where it is not in the way. I can't take a picture of it now because the car is being driven by my wife, but it is easy to do. I used the unused cargo net from my 2007 Camry. Snap the top loops of the net into the seat belt guides on the top of the back seat. Use small D-rings to connect the bottom loops of the cargo net to the cargo tie-down rings on the cargo floor. Works like charm, is out of the way and actually looks cool. You do have to disconnect the top loops from the back seat before folding the seat.

Here are pictures of my cargo net with items and empty:

I have the cargo net in my 2010, Pkg II. Also got the first aid kit. Both kinda useless. I told the sales guy I did not need that stuff (I do CPR and first aid classes, and carry a much better med kit). So - he knocked that off the sales price. That was nice. Meanwhile, a cardboard box (copy paper box free from the office) is what I used to use in my 2009..... To prevent slipping, I placed an old closed-cell foam pad for backpacking on top of the rear cargo mat.
