i can't imagine anyone would even find a lawyer to take the case.

i don't know what skidding out of control and airbags have to do with co poisoning.

and this whole thing about a car 'risking combustion through user error'- what? i don't believe anything started on fire... and any other car would have a higher risk if left running.

<_< Since no apparent harm was done, I agree, I don't think this case warrants a lawsuit either.
That said, I was responding to the excessive reportedly generated and not the CO.
If the car were to generate the heat reported and the associated unusual odor (overheated electrical components perhaps?) and this were to cause a fire hazard and was this the typical result of "user error", I think there would be legitimate cause for redress.

If the heat was just the result of the buildup of head within the garage from the car being on and the garage insulation doing its job, of couse there would be no problem and a lawsuit not be justified.

My glib remark about the oven careening out of control (indicated as glib by my inclusion of the winking smiley ;) ) was to point out that, under normal use and foreseeable user error (of which, leaving the car on would qualify), devices should not fail catastrophically (And, yes, in this case it did not fail catastropically).

None of this matters anyway as it appears this was simply posted by a Troll. There are too many things that don't add up.

Point clarified. Must have missed the wink, was kinda flying through replies at the time. Sorry :(

Personally, I don't think the heat or smell would be caused by the car... considering most of the time the engine isn't even on if just left sitting, and also considering that many of us have driven the car for 18 hours + at a time which is much more demanding, left the car on while taking a nap at a rest stop, and had no strange electrical smells. at least, we didn't smell anything...

Well, I need to look again, but I thought all that was said about smells was weird smell. I took that to mean exhaust smell.
CO alarm going off is possible, depending how sensitive it is. I doubt the Prius would put out dangerous levels, but it does produce some, and that might be enough to trigger an alarm, especially if both were in the same room.
Pilot light went out? That means all oxygen was exhausted. Again, not likely, as then the engine couldn't run anymore. (which counters the committing suicide with a Prius via suffocation)

:) No problem. It's pretty easy to misinterpret meaning in a text-only environment.

    Be happy. B)

Should we be reading this name as "Wreck - A - Plan"? It seems less than factual to me as well.
