I am new here, hope this is not too dumb or a repeated question. Really need to make a good choice but so confused!! Our pos (pardon my french) OEM tires are down to the wear bars and need to travel next week. Would have replaced them sooner but new roof took priority! I have been in bad accidents, so value safety most of all. We get a lot of rain in Florida so wet traction is a priority, and for economy, looking for good treadwear too. Ruled out the Energy Saver because didn't think the better gas milage was worth the hit on treadwear life, handling and braking. Anyway, after MUCH research was 100% going to get Michelins, specifically Hydroedge Green X - but guess what? On back order - Michelin says won't even know anything for another 4 weeks, then could be available or NOT - they only get updates every 4 weeks so don't know what will happen then. Second choice - Harmony? Also on back order! So down to Harmony-like specialty versions - Destiny at Discount Tires or Weatherwise II at Sears or X-Radial DT at (hopefully) BJs. They all seem to have different tread patterns but are supposedly just variations on the Harmony. Only other choice is the Primacy MXV4, which is rated higher for load and speed but less treadwear (I think 60,000 vs 80,000 warranty on others) and not rated quite as good on braking. Other than that have to move down the foodchain to maybe Goodrich Premier Touring - which I don't think is the same quality. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. When we had our 08 Prius, I was very happy with the Goodyear Fuel Max tires. They were a big improvement over the Integrities. Very quiet, smooth, better traction and seems a good value compared to the others, but that just me LOL
We are experiencing excellent performance and wear resistance with Michelin Hydroedge tires. Consumer Reports just did a review, but did not like the wet surface traction. They have been very good for us in snow on pavement. I have put 40k+ miles on the current set of tires and will not hesitate to replace them with the same tires at 80K+ miles.
You can't go wrong with Michelin Primacy MXV4 or Hydroedge. I have the MXV4's and am very pleased. Low rolling resistance tires wear out faster and have less stick to the road qualities. When you consider the shorter life time, the price, and $ saved of gas vs. the above two tires, you are no better off with low RR. Kumho Solus are also OK.
I use the Michelin Energy Saver A/S - great on fuel economy and seem to ride better than the Integrities and good braking distance. I imagine you've found the thread that links to "when round and black is lean and green" or something like that. TireRack also has some good comparisons (although the Energy Saver isn't on there because it doesn't have enough user reviews yet). From what I've heard, it doesn't take much to get something better than the OEM tires.
You would need to do some serious research to find a tire worse than the OEM GY Integrity. :madgrin: I have the Michelin Destiny, handling is much better than the OEM tires, FE may be a little lower.
I replaced mine with Goodyear Viva Assurance Fuel Max tires - the Walmart version of the assurance tires. So far I'm very happy - good mileage and ride and handling in the rain is also good.
Michelin Destiny's, even the wife noticed the difference and normally I could re-upolster the interior and she wouldn't notice.
Save a bunch of money and go with the Hankook Optimo 727. Given a good review by Consumer Reports and several contributors here. I put Michelin Primacy MXV4s on mine and they're great tires, just not sure if they were worth the extra cash. - D
Well when you said rain, HydroEdges was the first that came to mind. You can try the Goodyear Assurance ComforTreds or Goodyear Assurance TripleTreds. Note that the TripleTreds don't come in the stock 185/65R15 size but you can work around that, making sure that the revs are similar.
