As you can see from the pictures, the wheel covers do serve a good purpose. They were able to adequately protect the wheel from damage when my Prius was viciously attacked by an Acura. I haven't taken it off to check, but I expect that there is absolutely no damage to the wheel itself.
Wow. Sorry to hear about that. I would still have the wheel inspected for cracks. Hope the other person was covered.
Oh my gosh, what exactly happened here? This is horrible, I'm sorry that this happened to you. (By the way, I left my wheel covers on too.)
FWIW, that looks like a very "good" hit: I'd be almost 100% sure that fender is a bolt-on panel, and almost all the damage is contained within it. They will likely just do refurb on the door (around the mirror). Sorry for you though: it's always a shocker when this happens. Of interest: they can take off some alloys and "turn" then on a lathe, skimming a slight amount off. We had this done on our HCHII after a hit and it worked out quite well. Also, looks like a very light "kiss" on the wheel, ie: the suspension is likely ok.
From the looks of the door/front fender seam, I would lobby for a new fender and a new door. Otherwise they'll have a heckuva time getting that seam anywhere close to correct. I'm praying for you for a paint match... Apologies for my negative tone
I was being sarcastic about the wheel covers. I kind of like them better without the covers and I was thinking of taking them off. However, not doing so kept my wheel from getting scuffed. I'm slightly concerned about damage to the wheel bearing and suspension. My car was pushed a few inches and I think all the force was on the wheel. I took a quick look and felt safe enough to drive it. I'm going to ask for a more thorough inspection though. As for what happened, I live on a corner. The driver was just going too fast and couldn't make the turn.
