Location of lever to open back door from inside

OMG, you mean it located in the Owner's Manual?

 

It would be easier to operate if it was located in the Owner's Manual.

I think he is asking for the lever usually under the driver's seat to open the hatch or trunk, not the emergency hatch opener.

 

Well then, he should have asked that question.

It would be a good question if the Prius had one.

It would be great if there was a hatch release from the drivers seat...oh well!

 

You don't really need it, since there is a hatch release on the outside of the hatch. Driver's seat release levers are used to let someone into the hatch when there isn't any way to open it from the outside. In the case of the Prius, it's easy to open from the outside.

Perhaps too easy! I'm having trouble keeping it LOCKED after opening it, as unlike any other car I've had-it does NOT self lock upon closing.

If I did it correctly....I pressed BOTH the lock button on the fob + the tiny "hidden" lock button on hatch at the SAME time. IF the fob is well away from the car it seems to STAY locked, but not so when I'm "within range" with the fob. Am I missing something??! DFO

 

All you need to do is press the lock button on the hatch. Alternately, you may use the fob button. There is no need to do both.

Remember, with the SKS, if you test the hatch to see if it is locked, it will automatically unlock, assuming you have a fob in your presence. It can be a bit confusing at first.

Thanks! That is what I finally THOUGHT was happening. The salesman did his followup call this morning and said the same thing.

Just not used to so many 0s and 1s RUNNING a car!! DFO

 

Back (pardon the ALMOST pun) to the inside opening of the rear hatch: I found the illustration in my owner's manual, but still couldn't tell WHERE this release was!

Talked to the knowledable (far more than most I've encountered) salesman I got the car from about it this morning. He and the shop's best mechanic (Service Technician...) literally went into a Prius to find it as neither knew it was there. Here's why: it is hidden UNDER the big rear floor hatch and then under a small cover, too. Basically you need to drop rear seat back and either be a contortionist or limber 10 year old to get at it and actually USE it to pop the hatch. Basically an emergency release that could cause an older customer considerable-possibly-PAIN to TRY to access and use it. MINUS 1 for bad ergos! DFO

 

It's an emergency release, which is required by law. It's not meant for routine use.

No doubt about being for emergency use, and hopefully it is a very SLOW emergency! However, emergency or not...still POOR ERGONOMICS to put it mildly. I've never designed anything to be that awkward/difficult to use...NEVER! DFO

 

My take on it is that the release is a legal requirement. I think Toyota met the letter of the law in the cheapest possible way. It's certainly not useful.
