Yeah, with the darker center and lighter edge, it definetly looks like a rusted pit! And this is on all of them? Yeesh!
It's a metal trim. I used my finger nail to try and scratch it off, but all it did was chip it even more. It's not on any other car, just this one.
The one's I seen in West Virginia at my GM dealer (a silver one and a black one) had rust on the silver trim too.
Exactly, I thought it was just mud, or something like rail dust, but I've seen this in pretty much every single Cruze. Maybe if you get time to go to your local GM dealership, you can take a look for yourself.
i wonder if those trim pieces were farmed out or if they are GM manufactured. that should be replaced under warranty for sure.
Well folks, I'm intrigued. I think I will run by Chevy at lunch and see if I can tell any rusting. I don't expect to--surely it's not really a ubiquitous issue (right...?)--but I will check. EDIT: Checked out 6 at lunch, all rust-free. The trim is definitely metal, though. I assume that the rail dust (?) above has gone in so deep that the trim would need to be replaced.
Or simply a batch of trim didn't receive the proper amount of chrome plating, and somehow got through QC. When you think about, with all the parts from different suppliers in a modern car, it is impressive putting one together without a minor flaw somewhere.
True but at least with Toyota, each person that installs the part associated with his/her station checks for quality and can stop the line if they find that something is out of place. Not sure how other manufacturers do it.
What surprised me was the piss-poor mileage on these. It's a small, slow car (not slower than its compatriots, but this is hardly a sports sedan). The base motor is rated at 22/35 I think. 22 city with the auto and 24 city with manual. Let's get real, 22 city? That is exceptionally terrible. The turbo motor which has same HP but a bit more torque does a little better at 24 city with the auto. I know I've heard of 40 highway but that is not what it's rated at. The 2011 Hyundai Sonata with fully 60 more horsepower and a larger car is rated at the same mileage. I thought this was supposed to be some wonderous eco mileage car. I am not seeing that at all. It gets worse mileage than a Corolla. I thought this was supposed to be a GM defining car. What is defining about it other than an apparently better drive and interior? It sure isn't the drive train. Apparently the ones I was looking at are the non-eco (?) but I went with the stickers on the window. That Eco mileage sounds quite good but the others, eco notwithstanding, are not good.
I test drove one of these a month ago. I'm a lifelong Toyota owner and in my opinion the Cruze is a pretty nice car, especially considering the car it replaces- the Cobalt. I thought the fit and finish was above standard for its class, the interior was well done, and on top of that the car had a lot of pep for a 4 cylinder. The manual transmission model gets 40MPG which is on the verge of entering hybrid fuel economy territory. Honestly, its got a lot more character than the corolla which has more or less become the poster child for boring car design.
From a driveability standpoint the Corolla is the worst car I've driven in a long time. It is less fun to drive than Prius, even
I drove a Corolla S semi-recently as a rental. It had the super-thick large diameter steering wheel (that also unfortunately made it into the Gen3 Prius) that made me feel like I was driving a Fisher-Price car. I was terribly disappointed, although the dynamics were still better than most American (rental) cars.
I don't want one, but I wish everyone who was going to buy a Silverado would buy a Cruze instead. Help save the planet.
Yeah but some Silverado owners actually need the cargo capacity for work which a Cruze cannot do (plus you're not gonna put dirty stuff into the trunk. A bed is a lot easier to clean)

Well GM does stand for garbage manufacturer. Their cars are held together by duct tape and two-way tape and don't last for more than a day or two. If you want a vehicle which will last a lifetime, and be trouble free, then you have to go with either a Toyota or a Honda. Both are great cars but I personally like Toyota more. Here are a few definitions of GM or GMC: 1) Garbage manufacturing Company 2) Garbage management company Ford stands for the following: 1) Found On Roadside Dead 2) Fix Or Repair Daily 3) For Old Retarded Drivers 4) For Only Redneck Drivers 5) Found On Rednecks Driveway 6) F****d Over Rebuilt Dodge If you say ford backwards, you get: 1) Driver Returns On Foot 2) Driver Returns On Flatbed and ford circled the issue with their logo. Toyota all the way! Toyota's the best and then there's the rest and that's all there is to it. So get used to it people!!!!! No one will ever beat the Toyota Prius. It's the best of every world. I took a close look at the Cruze at the Seattle Auto Show. None of the show cars (not surprisingly) had any rust on the shiny trim. But then again, they're babied indoors w/detailers over them constantly and not parked outside. The interiors were fairly nice for econoboxes, esp. a GM one. On a side note, it seems that even not-so-cheap non-luxury brand non-econoboxes are starting to get lots of hard plastics, even in the area right above the gauge clusters where traditionally, soft touch plastics are placed to give reviewers a better impression.
