Humming sound at the time of first start

    Hi All,

    As i am a new driver of my new Prius. Its been 4 months i am using it but from last couple of cold days in CT create a different Humming loud sound from the engine than regular one.


    Do you guys have any suggestion that i can follow or i have to go see dealer in CT.

    My car has 8K on it.

    Hey I used to live in Danbury! LOL Is Greentree Toyota still there? Anyway, it's usually when you open the door first ting in am some pump comes on to pressureize or do something to the brakes. It's very low so maybe you just didn't hear it before. The Prius makes alot of humms and noises, the Gen.2 even more so.

    Hey thanks for reply,

    Yes Greentree Toyota is still here. No it was something different than regular process that you mentioned above.

    Its happen only once on first start after that just a regular engine noise. But it was very hard noise.....:mad:

    Any idea what i can do...

    It's really hard to say without hearing it. You may have to go by the dealer and let them listen and compare it to another Prius on the lot.

    There are quite a few of us who occasionally have a severe vibration and banging noise from the engine when it starts from cold but I don't think that's what you are hearing. If you have the defroster on it could be the air conditioning compressor, it sometimes runs with the defroster and can make quite a noise at times, but that's really just a guess.
