I have a 2008 Prius with a front HID bulb that is intermittently failing. I am a klutz with large hands, and so I am not inclined to try a DIY fix. I called the dealership for an appointment, and they (to my surprise) said there is no reason to replace the bulbs on both sides at the same time. Said that the labor for so doing would be about double--no cost saving. Is this right? I thought the cost involved (other than the super-expensive bulbs themselves) related to removing the bumper, and I would think that would make doing both at the same time a sensible approach.
Dude, you can do this, it's really not that hard. Ask a mechanically inclined friend to stop by. Have cold beer ready! How much did the dealer quote on the work???? D4R bulbs on eBay are around $60 or so....... The labor they charge, unless they comp you, is nutz!!!
replace both. The other will go out or do the same flicker thingy sooner than later. Both sides are not exactly the same amount of work if you don't take the bumper off. Lots of threads and youtube videos to study before you do the deed. I replaced my fogs and hid with 6k matching hence I took off the bumper.
Mill Valley? Heavens. Take it to Luscious Garage in SF. Price there is $94 for bulb + $30 installation. Or ask the dealer to price match (hah!). Link to blog on HID bulb replacement: Luscious Garage | Blog | Prius headlight problem, D4R HID bulbs *still overpriced, not covered under warranty*
I have a 2005 and would like to change the fog light bulbs to LED's where did you get yours? Thank you, priuslovers.
WOW. Thank you for this link. Toyota Marin was saying I had to allow three hours for the job. I'm going to schedule something with Luscious. Thanks again.
