Ok, quick question. The PAC connects to the scosche reverse harness? Then do I need to connect the PAC to something else? The resistor from the PAC goes between the scosche and the PAC?

The instructions for my PAC says that I only need to connect a ground and the white cable. That's it. Does that mean I only need to connect it to the black and white cable coming off the reverse harness?

    Thanks!

Yes, that's how I connected it per the pics. I had SWI-JACK black, white, and brown wires (along with the resistor) connected to Scosche reverse harness. Later (while programming), I found that black wire was not grounding. I connected to the BHA1761 black wire and it worked.

You'll also need to power SWI-PAC red wire with red wire from BHA1761 reverse harness. SWI-PAC's steering wire (yellow + blue) goes directly to your head unit.

Ok, last question. The SWI doesn't seem to have good instructions. Is the resistor connected to the brown wire off of the scosche harness, or the white wire?

    Cheers.

Ok, I figured that out. Last question. Did you mount the GPS antenna under the dash, where the speaker would have been in a JBL setup, or is it on top of the dash?

    Thanks.

Yes, I have it where the JBL center speaker would be, under the plastic dash hidden away nicely.

Maybe you can try putting it on the MFD. I am not sure if there is enough clearance.

They are in Van Nuys, CA 91406. Is it far from you to pick up? I would give them a call.

I also wanted to replace my prius 2007 HU. I like the Kenwood DNX6960 but it is too pricey for me. What other units can I use here insted of DNX6960. In other words, what should I look for in a unit to replace the Ken wood?

    I have Prius 2007 Package 1.

    Thanks

You can use DNX5160 without the Bluetooth and premium eXcelon audio. It still has the same Garmin navigation and high resolution crystal clear screen (compared to competition). My thoughts on the upgrade is not to go cheap for something I would be using for 4-5 years. I am going to upgrade once with the head unit and the navigation I really want.

If you use iPhone extensively, I believe Pioneer head units have better interface and maybe better for you.

I found this hidden functions on kenwoodforums. I have changed the startup screen and it works.

Test Mode: Eject + FNC + Reset
    Span : NAV + Eject + Reset
    E2P Clear: SRC + NAV + Reset
Opening (Startup screen): SRC + Eject + Reset
Shop On: Eject + Tel + Reset
    Shop Off: SRC + Reset
RDS Test: Eject + ATT + Reset

    Start up screen: 800 x 480 (JPEG)

I just added 2011 map from the micro SD card. It took around 10 minutes. I am not sure of the exact time because I switched to DVD and let it copy in the background.

It is super fast compared to the usual Garmin USB hookup. There are plenty of space since I was able to fit both maps in the internal memory.

I got requests and questions about the iPod integration so I made a video to cover it.

It didn't come out crystal clear as I wanted to be but this gives the idea of what DNX6960 is capable of.

    1) I covered the integrated iPod music control from the head unit and steering wheel.

    2) iPod Videos played on DNX6960

    3) Played Pandora internet radio station

I can also play games on iPhone with the audio through the car speakers. Very cool.

Thanks for that, I'm still on the sidelines for doing the HU upgrade but I do like the look of this one!

Crutchfield has a factory refurbished DNX6960 for $699.00.

Would it be wise to choose this option and save $200 or would it be a gamble on the unit's reliability compared to a brand new unit?

I got my Kappa speakers from there refurbished and I have zero regret.

For that price you can probably get a new one on the non-authorized online dealer. I would check abd compare warranty period. Kenwood offers 2 or 3 years warranty on their eXeclon line of products.

Very interesting thread, as I'm longing too to have a better audio experience than my failing DICE.

I'm wondering though: the Crutchfield website tells it's not compatible with my 2008 Prius (no NAV, no JBL). Do you know why?

Also several car audio shops told me they won't fiddle with an hybrid because of the optimized voltages. After a few months, did you have any issues, either with the audio or with the rest of the inboard electronics?
