satellite radio: yes or no?

I had the same response when I called about renewing mine. Forgot to mention, they offered me a plan for $119 then they said oh, that totals out to $138. I said what is the extra charge for. They said royalty fees. I told him I could buy the whole package for $142. Silence on the phone:-(

 

Yes, it appears from reading this thread and others on XM that it all depends on who you get to talk to when they pick up the phone. Some seem knowledgeable of the discounted rates and are more than willing to work with you while others appear clueless and just want to complete the call and move to the next one !!

I have a month before mine expires. I like the XM features and am willing to pay the discounted rate of just under $100 ($77 rate + $11 royalty fees + taxes) for it but not the full $160+ dollar rate($142 rate + $22 royalty fees + taxes). My FM and CD's will do fine at that rate.

 

SCORE!!!! Well, Todd was right. YOU have to ASK for the rate . They will not offer it to you otherwise. Just got XM radio for a whole Year for $88.78. ))))

 

As other have mentioned, just indicate to them that you received something in the mail with a $77.00 offer.

If they give you any troubles, don't waste any time on the phone, hang up and call back. You will get the $77.00 price package.

They are all scripted to offer the highest package possible, and play dumb with the $77.00 price, that has been around since literally 2004 when I first got it on my then Hummer H2.

And yes, the H2 finally went by the wayside for the Prius.

 

XM is not worth it for me. The hills and trees frequently block out reception. My biggest complaint however is that XM is NOT commercial-free. I am not paying to listen to commercials. I'll bring along my CD's, or put on NPR radio (which has commercials, too)! My XM free trial is still valid, but I find I don't listen a lot.

Yes, I too scored the $77 a year deal. With fees and such is 88 an change. You figure in the price of cd's, downloads, extra crap plugged in your car, seems a good deal to me. I can listen to CNBC, ESPN, or lots of music.

 

Yes. I just renewed my XM for the second year. I really enjoy the commercial free music (on the main station that I listen to anyway), not having to find stations on a trip, and the sports stations that you mention.

 

The JBL system sounds a lot better when you set the fade 2 or 3 ticks towards the rear. That quiets the front mid/tweeters a bit and provides more balalnced sound.

I never listen to anything except XM in my PriusIV. I didn't get the $77 + 11 or whatever. I got the lifetime (as long as you own the car) XM plus best of SIRIUS for $499. I don't know if that special is still available, nor if it is a good value, but I'll probably have this car for enough years to make it worthwhile.

I've read the posts here. Am I the only sports fan who owns a new Prius? XM with Sirius gives you every MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL game. Plus lots of college sports. That in of itself is worth it to me. Of course, I don't need bass because I listen to classical and broadway music, besides sports.

Also they have continual weather and sports for my area (DC-BALT).

I love the Prius since I bought it in July, 2009 and have over 63K miles with no problems so far, just a new set of tires.

I got my XM renewal notice yesterday. $15.53 per month, $170.85 per year. 3 year $418.59. No lifetime offer on the options. Not in my plans to renew at these prices.

 

Call XM and talk to the Cancellation Department. Ask for the half-price $77 per year plan that you heard about on PriusChat. The total with royalty fees and taxes is around $95 per year. Most on here are getting the discounted pricing.

XM is good for people that live where there are not obstructions. It's too bad there isn't any way to add buffering memory to the radio. My friend has an eight year old Impala and his radio has a 10 minute buffer. If Toyota want to offer the radio in their cars, they should consider adding buffering memory into the cost of the radio. We have a subscription for xm now and when it's up, it's gone.

If I decide I really can't live without it, I'll buy an add on unit with memory.

 

On my Prius III it is built in without out a choice. I have found that it is XM stereo and the quality/signal strength is worse than the Sirius models/stock radios
