Hymotion charging question

I have two questions with charging a Hymotion conversion.

    1) It seems that on a rare occasion when it is plugged in it won't start charging, as indicated by the rear brake lights not going on. I will push the little reset fuse down in the spare tire well, but that doesn't seem to have any effect. Sometimes it will then start charging when plugged back in, sometimes it won't. But it never seems that the fuse button is sticking out needing to be reset. Is it possible that I am plugging it in too soon after turning the car off? Sometimes I think I'm plugging it in within 30 seconds or less. But then when I unplug it and retry again it still doesn't work, until, seemingly at random, one time when I plug it in it goes on.

    2) It seems that sometimes when it starts recharging the brake lights will come on, stay on for several seconds and then go off. Other times, it seems that when it starts recharging the brake lights will come on, stay on for several seconds, go off, then come back on for a few seconds. It seems when they come back on I can hear a noise, which to me sounds like a relay possibly closing, coming from the kit. Why is it that sometimes the brake lights come back on?

The only thing I know what to tell you is if you have a Kill-A-Watt see if you get any amps or watts when you plug it in. If you dont then you have a problem with your battery and need to contact your local Hymotion installer.

Have you ever seen any blink codes from the Hymotion LED on the dash?

In my experience. If I disconnect the plug thinking that it wasn't charging and recconnect immediately he brake light does not come on. The charge does complete by the morning. I normally plug in my car within a minute when I recharge.

I believe the normal (intended) behavior is the second one that you describe (brake lights going on and off twice).

If you wait several minutes after shutting off your car, you should always get that behavior.

Yes, if you plug it in right after shutting down, you will usually get the other behavior (brake lights going on and off only once).

It has been my experience that, regardless of when and how I plug it in, the battery will charge properly. So, you probably don't need to worry about it.

Nonetheless, it is reassuring to see the same behavior every time the car is plugged in.

I usually don't plug it in until just before I go to bed. So, I almost always see the "normal" brake light behavior.

Yes, I was told by someone at Hymotion that 2 minutes after shut down, the system resets itself.

I always try to wait 2 min. and a few seconds before plugging in. As you say, don't know if it matters.:noidea:
