    Hi all,

I'd like to build up one or two nice screen savers with pictures of various Prius's. I have the tools and would be happy to provide the time, disk space, and bandwidth to create and make available the results.

Of course, the hard part is getting pictures from you all. So, if you have some nice shots of your little guy (or gal as designated) send them to me at [email protected]. The bigger the better as I can re-size them as needed. My email can handle any size. Some glamor shots of the car by itself and then some with you and/or your family in or next to it would be great. If I get enough images I will build more than one screen saver.

So, if you are interested, get the digital camera out and let's get some pictures together.

    [email protected]

I'll collect them until the end of the month but don't wait!

(note: I only have tools to make PC versions of the savers but would be happy to work with someone who has a Mac that can make them for those)

As long as it's not for commercial purposes you're free to use any of the photos I have posted at:
    http://www.pbase.com/efusco/prius_only

Most are available at large high resolution if you click on the "original" link under each photo.

Thought that might be easier than clogging your mail box with 10GB of photos.

Why not make a screen saver that loads all pictures from either the directory to which it installed or a directory during installation?
Then we could add pictures as they became available.

Well, I'm not sure what you mean exactly. I wouldn't want to make a screen saver that hit the internet to get the pictures every time - that would be a massive amount of bandwidth to deal with if it was popular. You are right, it's as simple as loading all the pictures in a directory and telling your screen saver program to just show those, but distributing a load of pictures to a lot of people becomes a bit of a chore too.

If I get enough pictures together I'll create a single simple file that automatically installs the saver as one of the options on Windows. I've done plenty of these for Ham Radio groups and it works pretty well.

And yes, this is 100% non-commercial. It (or they) will be available for free to anyone - BUT, I need the pictures - or permission to use what is on the various web archives.

;) Yes. All the users would have to do would be to right-click on a picture, select "Save target as", and save it to the screen saver diretory.
    (These are IE instructions)

I believe one of the Windows screensavers does exactly this- you specify a directory on your hard drive and it randomly cycles through the images you've got in there....

That's what I do from time to time. Use the "My Pictures" screensaver. Nifty little transitions effects too. Then again, I'm easily pleased.

Don't forget about us Mac users when you make your screensaver please.

Edit: Oops, sorry, I see you did mention us Mac users.

You are both right...there is a way to create a screen saver by simply pointing it to a folder and you're set. I was thinking it would be nice to build one people can just click and go with.

I usually do a lot of cleaning and resizing on the images before making a screen saver out of them. And, this way, people can download one file instead of a bunch of them. Whatever floats your boats works for me.

I've gotten two sets of great pictures so far. Not bad for the first day. I really want to be able to build a 20 frame one...or a couple of them if enough folks send them in.
