Hey Speed, nice pics. One thing I found interesting is that the (POWER) button is on the outside of the steering wheel. Is this the same for all cars with right-side steering wheels? What I mean is, I would have expected a mirror image of the US model. Since we use our right hand to punch the power button right next to the MFD, you would use your left. Instead, I see that the button is still a right-handed function. Just curious.
Noticed the Power button is not in the same corresponding position, but on the right, (to US/Canada) in the Japanese version, but is below the right side air vent. I wonder why that is. EDIT somehow I failed to notice that this point was already made by Tony. We must have been typing at the same time.
I think maybe because it is more convenient to push it with your right and not your left hand, assuming you are right handed?
And here's a quicktime movie of some of the other surprises a the Tokyo Motor Show. http://www.fibble.net/
At first I was going to say that the power button was part of the entire steering module, but looking at the US interior, that doesn't seem to be the case. So, i don't see what the logic is, other than maybe keep it consistent with where they key would go? Also, I want those wheels instead as my stock! (not to mention that cool little "hybrid" badge on the side )
I like their placement of the Power button. It's not the same for all areas. In the UK, the Power button is up on the dash on the right side instead of below the vent in the Japanese version. If I recall correctly, they're running on Michelin Pilot 195/65R16 tyres
Actually, I would like to see the North American version come through with those side marker/turn indicator lights. To my knowledge, only the high end European auto makers install these on their vehicles, and they do have an effect on safety. It would be nice to see the U.S. automakers follow suit and install these (like some finally did with daytime running lights!).
Very cool pictures, thank you for sharing. Begs one question...anyone found the AUX input to the stereo yet? I've seen these and the US Prius interior shots, and couldn't find it.
I am even more glad I bought an '05 now. Can't stand extra plaques like the "HYBRID" on the front fender.
I would think a dealer could remove them. I have asked for such in the past and they have been able to do so. Why else are you glad you bought an '05?
Well, I'm glad that I bought a 2005 because: Didn't have to wait months, I got a 2005 quickly and have already been enjoying it for 3 months. Wouldn't be surprised to see prices go up at least a little for 2006 models. Not enough new features to get excited about. -Roger
Actually looking closely that's a tape player there, isn't it? That's the same as the '05 stereo. I don't think the CD/tape is available in '06 here. Of course this is not a problem if there's an AUX in. Anyway I think that's a different stereo than we are supposed to see. -bill
Looks like the grille piece is chrome! Yay! I happen to love the new headlights/tailights. Thanks for posting this link and post any others you find!
1. Amber turn signals are different. 2. Textured dash and glovebox -- no scratches!! 3. Hybrid badges: If foam tape is used slip some fishing line behind the badge and cut it off. Then, roll off the excess and use 3M adhesive remover to clean off the rest. Did it with one of my TDIs and it works great. Other things I like about the 06.... Safety: Addition of RC and amber signal enlargement is needed -- no DRLs is not a good idea.
Yes, they are the stock wheels for the Japanese and European markets. They are 16x6 and the stock tire is 195/55. [attachmentid=654] They actually have a plastic cover. Here is a pic without the cover. [attachmentid=653]
I wonder if we'll be able to swap out dash and/or glovebox pieces from the '06 model to the '05 model. My glovebox is pretty scratched up already, and I'd love to use the textured model instead, once it's available for parts purchase.
