I'm trying to decide between a Used 2010 Prius II or a Used 2008 Prius Touring VI with leather. The 2010 is a better car, but the 2008 is fully loaded with leather and has larger 16" rims.

    Which would you buy?

    Thanks,
    Grayson

Can you tell us the prices of each and the mileage? Are either, esp. the 08, Toyota certified?

Since you mention 2008 Prius Touring VI with leather, is it package NR? (see US 2008 section of http://priuschat.com/forums/knowled...andard-optional-equipment-some-countries.html)

The touring model, due to its 16" incurs a slight mileage penalty over the 15" wheels on non-tourings. See ConsumerReports.org - Most fuel-efficient cars when the site goes back up.

Without any more info, I'd lean towards the 2010 since it is a better car and it'll have more of its warranty left. If either, esp. the 08 are CPO, then that significantly changes the equation.

I bought a CPO '08 package 6 a couple months ago. It's a good car, although I am anxiously awaiting a year to pass so I can get a better deal on a used '10. I miss my heated seats and sunroof. The '08 will certainly have more bells and whistles...

Yes, the 2008 Touring is the NR package.

Prices and mileage vary and CPO vary, but around 30k miles and 18k for the 2008 Touring VI (NR) package). Is it worth a premium to get CPO?

2010 Prius II is around 19k.

Prius11 has a one of a kind look were as the 3 looks like a Corrola with eye brows. You could put in heated seats. H

    Grayson,

I was in almost the exact same position as you 1 year ago. I couldn’t decide between buying a new 3rdGen Prius II or a Used 2009 Touring (#5) (certified) at 10k miles. Both were roughly the same price (this was before the entire recall madness and crazy price drops). I always liked the look of the Gen II, so didn’t mind buying an older model at all. As you can see from my picture, I went with the 2009 and I’ve never been happier.

You’re situation is a bit different since you’re comparing two used cars. But if you think like me, I would definitely recommend the 2008 Touring without any hesitation. The amenities of the package 6 make the Touring much more desirable and even near luxury-car status. I’ve also always said a Gen II Touring drives better than a base Gen III (but Prius V beats Touring). Good luck and let us know what you decide!

Drive both and see which one you like better. Decision will be much easier afterward.

I did the same recently and here's my opinion:
    (purely subjective, of course)

    * Gen3:
    + more power
    + better handling
    + slightly better fuel economy
    - plasticky feel
    - awkward interior design (what's up with the gap under the center console)
    - a lot more money for similar equipment

    * Gen2:
    + softer ride
    + better visibility
    + better looking interior

Interestingly enough, nothing irritates me about the Gen2. So I bought two of them: '08 #6 for wifey and '09 #5 for myself :D

naid. Good to see a smiling face! What does your wife think of it? It seemed to scare my wife. All those lights and wheels turning got the best of her! She is driving it however. She drove it 600 kilometers yesterday so we will see how she feels about it today. I really like the Gen 11 as well. H

Oh, my wife loves the Prius! I'm sure one day when it's time to sell it, she won't want to. She had a choice between Gen2 and Gen3 and also picked the Gen2.

If you have fairly short legs, try on a 2nd Gen Prius for size, but beware, there are numerous threads and warnings about the driver's seats. Likely the most notorious car seats of any model, ever.

    Problems With a Prius Driver's Seat | eHow.com

and no McMaster, I didn't write this article.

Total BS that the 3rd Gen interior is awkward. Here's a list of its advantages -

    * The 'energy monitor' type screens are now separate from the climate buttons, audio buttons/screen and navigation. (in the 2nd Gen, they are all rolled into the single multi-function display)

    * telescopic steering wheel, height adjustable dr. seat and the seat itself is likely 15% larger

    * floating bridge console brings the buttons and shift lever closer to the driver

If you are somehow more comfortable in the 2008, that would be a good one.

Thanks for everyone's help!. I bought a 2008 Prius Touring III with leather for $13,500 + TTL. 41k miles.

Is there anything I should know about this car or do you have any tips and tweaks?

Hmmm, I'm not sure since that's definitely up to you. The reason I said that is because I'm personally into modifications, even though it can be costly. Where I live, it seems like almost everybody owns a Prius, so I really enjoy making the car my own.

I know that many people on this forum do professional window tinting. Other upgrades to consider are LED light replacement, stiffening braces You can get more ideas in the Modifications forum.

You will love this car. It will keep you busy learning how everything works. So many bells and whistles. I have been getting great FE out of my new to me. 2006 that has 12000 miles on it. Traveled 600 kilometer in fairly mountainous country and managed 4.1 ltr. per 100 kil. I think that is about 58 mpg?US. All this on C.C at 55 to 60 mph. I'm coming in with 4 to 4.3 ltr.'s per 100 on a all the trips I've mad. All on CC, love this car! H

For better FE block the grill (cheap) & increase the tp to max sidewall (free). Enjoy.
