I am curious to know what I should expect concerning the miles I put on my Prius and the maintence/repair cost I may need to endure in the future. So far, I have had my 05 Prius for 6 months and have over 12000 miles on her. No major repairs other than regular maintenance such as oil changes and rotating the tires. I am tickled pink so far! But I would like to hear from others (year of your Prius, Number of Miles, Repairs and cost)

28,000 maintenance free miles since January of 04. I have done the regular oil chamges and tire rotation. It has never been back to the dealer. :)

26,500 miles since April 2004. Oil and filter every 5000 miles, tires rotated, that's it. No repairs, no scheduled maintenance, no visits to the dealer.

I bought my 2003 Prius on the last week of November 2003. The only thing I did to that car in 60,700 miles was replace the tires. Otherwise it was regularly scheduled services, of which in my case, the first four were on Toyota.

2001 Prius, 79k miles. Aside from replacing tires, engine oil and filters, I've had a rear wheel bearing and an ECU, both under warranty. Longer Prius service records can be found, and they all supprt the notion that this is a fine car.

August '04. 36K miles. Had the O2 sensor glitch at about 500 miles that was common around then. All that needs done is drive it to clear the exhaust system from the burned off coating.
The center console fabric is starting to pull off, and the coolant heat storage pump is starting to sound a bit funny, though still works OK.
Only oil, oil filter and air filters done.

Oh yes, the JBL amp glitched on me once, but a reboot of the car took care of that.

    Very minor stuff.

The center console fabric is detatched near the opener, and was also looking bad in another Prius parked next to mine on Saturday.

I need the rubber pad on the parking brake replaced, and the dealer's service department said to swing by to have another one ordered as long as I'm still under warranty. But that'll be over in another 340 miles or so.

Kinda wish the new house hadn't sucked up the money I would have spent on the extended warranty, but I'll have to hope for the best...

Had mine almost a year now, just over 7,300 miles, mostly in-town. No issues to speak of. Changed the oil/filter and rotated the tires after 6 months, and she goes in for her next oil change in a few weeks.

I kinda feel bad for the service guys, who only get to see her once in a great while... :)

If you have an 05 you should be fine. All of the things done to mine (relatively early 04) were teething pains that were fixed in the 05s as far as I've seen.

Aside from standard maint (oil change / tire rotations), mine has been in for:

    1) Center Speaker Rattle
    2) Center Console Cover peeling.
    3) SSC 40D (Reprogramming Multi-Scan-Tool Interface)
    4) SSC 40J NAV DVD Update
    5) Brake Light Switch Recall (not Prius Specific - other Toyota Models too)
    6) TSB EL010-04 Filler Neck and Fuel Gauge CPU TSB
    7) TSB EL002-05 Multi Function Display Failure

And, Wednesday I'm going in for the last of the 04 specific issues (I hope :) )

    8) Brake Light Vanes Melting (Part was Re-Designed)
    9) Headliner Sagging (Part was Re-Designed)

I have not had TSB EG023-04 (Floor Wire Harness), TSB EG047-04 (Failure to Start), or TSB EG017-05 (Inverter Coolant Leaks) done. Haven't needed them.

Of course none of those cost me anything, except time.

    Gas tank replaced on warranty.

Yesterday, I had noticed the carpet floor mat under the accelerator pedal looked a little dirty. Upon closer inspection I noticed that it is worn down to the carpet backing!

No, I don’t wear spurs, the wife doesn’t wear stilettos, and I didn’t clean it with sulphuric acid. Shouldn’t these mats last a bit longer than a pampered 13,000 mile / year?

Mine fell off too! It's the only problem I've had so far. (Jan '05, ~12000 miles).

Well,. .. I am at 24K miles on an '04.

    Oil change and tire rotation.
Both visors replaced. Passenger side was peeling. Driver's side would not stay in the forward position.

Transmission Switch replaced because of "catching" or getting stuck in R or F and not returning to normal.

Inverter Coolant Pump REPLACED after going out and getting the Triangle with the Exclamation Point!!!!

    Standard "Programs" for the 2004.

Noticed that the dash is sagging a little, but probably will not worry about it.

Just over 20,000 miles in the last 16 months for me and no major issues yet.

    1) Four oil and filter changes.

    2) Dealer replaced loose plastic trim on the outside of the drivers door.

    3) Replaced cabin and engine air filters at 20,000 miles.

    4) Fabric coming loose on the center console. New part ordered by dealership.

    5) I checked yesterday and my VIN falls within the range for the recent recall.

Almost 35,000 miles. Bought 11/8/03. Had the SSC done a few months back. The usual oil changes, air filters and cabin filter. I put a leather surround I got on Ebay for the center console cover. Fits like a glove.
