Just went to my toyota dealer and gave them 4 qts of ATF Fluid. I got the bill and they said they had to "Add a qt" saying it took more than 4 qts but not quite 5.. Is this right?
It depends, I am assuming that you don't have a 2010 Prius. I just changed my fluid today and it only takes 3.8qts I have a 2004
I have a 2005.. it cost 106 total, but that was with a $10 coupon. So, they charged $116 for 5 qts of ATF and labor. I just don't get where the "over 4" came from.
Then I do believe that it should only be 3.8 qts..... how much for labor? Its a quick and easy job....It took me around 20 minutes. I payed $32 for the Oil.
Maybe the spilled a bottle.. I have no idea if they even did the service. The dealership is like a secret lair for the service dept. You can't see inside or anything.
Why do they have to fit their stereotypes so well? I'm sick of this.. I go to Firestone 3 days ago and they try to put a different oil in my car then what they say, now the actual Toyota dealership is gouging me for 8 extra bucks.. seriously, where can I find someone who isn't dishonest?
i did it my self took 3.8 qts, its very easy and DIY next time search the forum and you will find it in details.
i think the reason there is a diference is because if you do it yourself there is usual a small amount left behind not drained out.the garage will drain it all which is about extra cupful or so. i find 4tins did my 2005 prius and even some of that overflowed.
I have learned to listen to Patrick Wong carefully for accurate info. From Toyota repair manual: This matches exactly what he has said earlier. When I changed mine I poured in 4 qts but some drained out. So 4 qts should be enough for DIYers. Good luck!
Around here in north central CA the two dealers I asked wanted 11.50 per US quart. They said it was the new price. I would guess to say they were just generally annoyed at you bringing your own oil and spoiling their fun so charged you an extra quart for nothing. Dealers often have an attitude of the customer is always wrong. So they proved it by telling you you brought too little oil for them to perform their duty. We know, you don't, attitude. As for draining it all out, I know I let my oil drain a lot longer than the dealer would.
Toyota dealers use a special lift to tilt the car forward 45 degrees to drain all the ATF out. I bet you will lose by a long margin even if you let it sit for a week. :bounce:ound::rofl:
A good independent mechanic is your best bet, someone who depends on word-of-mouth and will make things right, rather than faceless corporations that have a monopoly (dealer) or marketing/coupons (Firestone). The quality of service declines exponentially with the number of service bays.
