Hopefully I can prevent someone from doing what I did. My Prius was in the garage and I put a load of cardboard into the back to take to the recycling center. One of the boxes was too long to fit completely in the car so I left the hatch up. I kinda closed the hatch on the protruding box, and then decided to open it back all the way up so the box wouldn't scratch my hatch.

So I hit the power switch and back out…

    CRUNCH! @&#^$@!

It never even occurred to me that the open hatch was taller than a fully open standard 7’ x 16’ garage door. I have a creased tailgate to prove it, and to top it off, I had to pay someone to put my garage door back on the tracks. It broke the socket part of both ball-and-socket hatch-holder-uppers too, so if I lift the hatch too far, they pop off.

Been there, done that myself. I was blessed to not damage anything but the spoiler, and bent the mounting holes. Had the spoiler replaced and painted, with some adjustment to the mountings. I'm not satisfied with the adjustments, but even after a year, the body shop is willing to adjust it at no charge. If anyone is in the Tampa Bay area and in need of body work, I highly recommend Mikes Body Shop on county line road in Spring Hill. They also do mechanical work also, but probably not on hybrids. Mine was the only one they have seen up close.

    Hey Everyone,

I pulled a similar stunt recently. Except that I park on the left side of my garage, and my wife uses the right. (as you look into the garage from the driveway. I back in so that both of our drivers side doors open to the middle of the garage. It seems like a smaller garage than others. But I can fit a LOT of stuff in there and two cars.

Any way. I put something in the hatch and forgot to close it as I rolled out of my garage, I heard a bump. I stopped and found what I had done. The only damage was some small scratches and paint transfer from the door to the car. After returning home from work that day, I used a minimum amount of rubbing compound to remove all evidence of my mistake.

I was fortunate! And I have leaned a lesson.

Well, they couldn't line up the spoiler completely, however it is much better than before. Now that I saw how to manipulate it without breaking glass, I might try a few things sometime.
