Looks like there are various discussions regarding the whole snow/prius issue, so I'd actually like to keep this thread limited to only people who would like to share their experience with Snow Chains they have used, whether they worked and most importantly fitted their Prius without doing any damage to it. Let's not go into the usual traction/snow tires discussion, there is plenty of info on that already. thank you
My experience is with a 2004 Prius, not the current generation: Super Z 6 from Security Chain Company, tire cables (not chains), available at Amazon. They aren't cheap, but they get the job done. I used them on three different occasions, and they worked well. They were relatively easy to put on, and they got me to where I was going. On one occasion, I ended up driving on pavement for about 25 miles (not fun) but the cables did not break, and at no time did they slap against the body or scratch the wheel covers. I now have an all wheel drive vehicle (2004 Subaru Forester Turbo) for driving in the snow, but I do intend to carry the cables in the new Prius when winter arrives. I hope this helps to answer your question. PS. The Prius does pretty well in the snow, even without cables.
Not sure for those who purchased their car used, but we had to sign a agreement stating that we will not use snow chain when driving up the mountains. Snow cables - yes, but again... there is something about that in the fine print on these as well.
