There is a hum coming from the rear of my 2002 Prius. Starts up at about 20mph and stops when speed gets below that. Put new tires on. Still hums, getting louder. Any ideas? Bearings? Transmission? Thanks for your help. :(

I don't think there is anything back there besides the wheels and tires that rotates except the brakes and wheel bearings. A failure of either could be exciting! If it were mine I think I would have it looked at sooner rather than later.

Sounds like you bought a Hummer by mistake. If the milage starts to drop below 10 MPG, I'd take it back for a new one.

One of the more intriguing thread names I've seen. :D

Is car under warranty (under 60K for drivetrain)? How many miles?

If it's rear, can't BE drivetrain.

    Brake drag? Wheel bearing?

I'd RUN, not walk, to dealer for diagnosis, irregardless.
