Thanks for the info. It would seem I will be getting a letter within the next two weeks or so. I called my local dealer, and, of course, they knew nothing about it. Guess I'll just wait for the letter.

 

Just use the last 7 digits.

 

The info just came in to the dealers today on the west coast. I was at a dealers this morning, mentioned it to the Tech and he said that they had not heard anything yet. Pulled it up on his computer and it had just came in. Mine is included tho I have had no problem as yet.

 

I'll be devil's advocate. I'm pretty sure that you might loose a few MPG with this update. However, I'm under the impression that the computer system is adaptive. Meaning that you might be able to regain the MPG loss with driving as the computer's new programming gets accostumed to being used and learns how everything interacts and how it is to best manage all the parts and pieces of the system.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

 

Exact same results. hope that means we have no recall.

 

My car is not in the listed range but it did have the stalling problem and it has already had the software update. The VIN number did come up valid.

 

I get the same thing. I think this public site is hosed.

 

My VIN is also listed a invalid.

 

for anyone worried about it... i wouldnt fix something that aint broke. if you aint having a problem...

 

My car doesn't exit--when I enter the VIN (re-checked and re-entered several times), I receive a message saying I have entered an invalid VIN. Why might that be?

Toyota Extends Prius Recall Globally to 160,000

Toyota is extending its recall of 75,000 Prius hybrid in the US (earlier post) worldwide, affecting a total of 160,000 cars.

A software malfunction in the engine control module (ECM) system in models manufactured from August 2003 through February 2005 can cause the engine to stall while driving. Limited operation via the electric motor is still possible, and the electrically-powered brake and steering operation will continue to function.

The recall covers 70,000 Prius cars in Japan; 15,000 in Europe, Australia and other markets; and the 75,000 in the US.

 

You really do need 9 CHARACTERS, not digits, after the "JTDKB20U" or "JTDKB22U" in the pull down menu. Mine has a leading "X4" before the seven DIGIT number that follows which seems to correspond to the numbers in the SSC 50P pdf file.

I made the same mistake that I suspect you made and only included numbers. When I included the complete remaining characters after the leading characters in the pull down menu, it worked fine.

Unfortunately, I need the Engine ECM reflash, the HV ECM reflash, and the connector grease.

Note: seasalsa was wrong when seasalsa suggested just using the last 7 digits!

 

I believe that seasalsa was referring to the initial poster's .pdf document, not the website. The document that the original poster included only allowed for 7 digits. The web site requires 9 characters. My VIN is not in the ranges listed in the document, and it is an "invalid VIN" on the website. I just did this for interest, given that it is for 2004 and early 2005. My Prius was made in June of this year, so I didn't expect to be on the list. However, "invalid VIN" is not the right message for customers.

I might guess that they don't update the list of VIN's until they have recalls or required service for them, resulting in later VIN's "not existing".

Okay, I took a look at my M5 connector today [the one that's supposed
to get dielectric-greased as part of SSC-50P]. Presumably this is
to help keep water out, even though it's already a "weatherproof"
type of connector with gaskets. What I want to know is, why are the
other, similar, and nearby connectors [M9 and M10] left un-greased?
What's so special about M5? Any Toyota techs wanna kick this back
to FTS and *insist* on the real answer, please?
