On my new 2010 V ATP, I was wondering if the Hill Start Assist could be switched on for longer than 2 seconds. It would be very helpful in traffic and at stoplights to be able to "lock it on" until one needs to move again.
I thought that once you set it it stayed until you pressed the gas... I've never tried it, pretty flat here, so don't know for sure. Used to have it in a Nissan Frontier, and once you set it it would hold until you pressed on the gas pedal...
Yes. Press hard on the brake to turn on HSA. Then keep your foot on the brake with just enough pressure to keep the HSA indicator light on. Your 2 seconds starts from the time you release your foot.
+1. This works, after HSA is engaged you don't need to keep applying as much pressure on the brake, just medium and it stays on.
Yeah... that auto-hold feature is only available on luxury cars for now.. .it'll filter now eventually...
The point of the two seconds is to allow sufficient time for your foot to leave the brake pedal and find the accelerator to prevent rolling backward. It's not intended to substitute adequate brake pressure to keep you in place (i.e. a foot rest). If you don't want to move and want to keep your foot off the brake, place the vehicle in Park. Having brakes on though keeps the lights on for the driver behind so he knows when you're going to move and when you're not.
PHC isn't hilly and I don't understand why you want to do all this extra work to activate Hill Start Assist every time you stop.
