I am in the process of purchasing a ceritified 2007 Prius with 41000 miles (package #6). The dealer is offering a Platinum Toyota Extra Care warranty. I have read the recommendations in this forum to consider extended warranties from WarrantyShack. My question is whether I can purchase an extended warranty from WarrantyShack after I purchase a vehicle that is no longer under the original warranty, or whether I must purchase the warranty from the dealer at the time of sale?...or whether I should consider an extended warranty at all!
In order to buy from Warranty Shack, the car must be still within the 36 month/36K mileage window. Your '07 with 41K miles won't qualify. I'm surprised the dealer can offer you that warranty.
I didn't know a dealer could offer you a Toyota warranty after the original warranty has expired even if the car is certified.
Thanks to both members who responded. I have some time because the dealer is waiting to acquire the title. Apparently the manager did not know it was not secured when the car was offered. But the director of finance gave me the Toyota Extra Care brochure stating that I was fortunate to have some extended time to think it over. Perhaps it was a mistake. I will let you know how it turns out.
Funny this was brought up. I just got my 2007 with 42K miles on it a couple weeks ago and the dealer sold me a Toyota Certified Platinum warranty even though WarrantyShack showed they couldn't sell me one.
