Sham the dashboard requires so much attention to make as quiet as we should be able to expect from a $25,000 - $30,000 car.

Yes I wholeheartedly agree. But now I have a rattle free rattlus and knowing that I have fixed it. I am pretty happy about it.

Would I buy another Toyota car in 8-10 years time? Maybe because my borther works for them. If not I will not touch their cars again except their lexus range.

Does anyone have a somewhat "rattle" or like "thump" noise coming from the pillar next to the front passenger seatbelt? or it could be near the rear door (shook it- no rattles). It's like a light thump sound that I hear sometimes when I turn or brake. And it's not the seatbelt metal buckle hitting the pillar...already put some rubber piece to prevent that. Already re-latched the rear seat.

Yes I have that one too. I have done all the things you mentioned, plus taken the passenger's seat out, removed the plastic trim from the B pillar and so far have found nothing.

My T3 is at 3k and has had a bad rattle from the arch above the main display for the last 1k. Took some time to find the source, but laying a hand on the top of the arch stops the noise. Happens after bumps, or on anything but the smoothest roads.

Seems fairly common - anyone fixed this rattle without removing the dash? Think I'm going to try cardboard in the cracks behind it first. If not perhaps something heavy on top of it temporarily (its driving me nuts!).

So you still live with the rattle or thump? :glare:

Yes, it's not as bad in warm weather or on smooth roads. Sometime this summer I'm going to remove the door panels and see if I can find it in there. I've tried juggling the seat back and slamming the doors and I can't seem to duplicate it that way. Almost seems as if it happens when the car body flexes over a certain type of bump, but I'm not sure.

That's precisely how it occurs to me too... I did the same things you did, but unable to duplicate. Strange...I'm sure that we're not alone on this one...

I have sometimes a 'ticking' sound at my left side from the door.
Strangely it appears when it's rainy/when i washed the car...
Had a severe winter this year here and not heared it the whole winter, when the temperature was up it came back. I lowered my window and when the door was closed i hear the ticking by pulling/pushing at the door. Seems like it has to do with the doorlock. Passed by the TOYOTA dealer, they don't find it.
Ratlle number i don't know how much...dash/pillars/door/seats/... hope that TOYOTA won't make the same rubbish again in the future !

If you read my post within this one you will find some of the reasons why the centre console rattles. And the best way to get rid of them is to have toyota anti-rattling kit and youw ill have to remove the centre console. Its not the dash. Once you've remove the dash then you will have a whole lot of rattles.

So far my centre consoles and my passenger side doesn't rattle at all. I am very happy with that. But the bloody seat belt holder rattles on both sides. Drive me crazy. Luckly it doesn't rattle all the time.

I did have door rattles as well. I foamed up all the wires inside the pannel and it seems to have stopped the issue. It is not the rain. Best way to open up the door trmp and see if anthing you touch makes any sound. Touch everything and then foam up. A lot of the wires in the doors have no foam at all. It is empty inside the fram.

I only see that in cheap cars. I had an Acura RL before and the door was nicely insulated and had all kinds of sound damping material.

This not even foam for all the wires.

Im happy to report I have found my rattle and fixed it. For the longest time I had this rattle that sounded like it was coming from the mid to front right of the car. Well just trying everything while driving the other day I finally found it. It was my sunglasses in the sunglasses holder. As stupid as that sounds the rattle noise it made did not sound like it was coming from there though. Just though I'd share.

We have plastic rattles with 500 miles. The most annoying by far has been the dash board. If I lightly rest my hand on the dash just above the Navigation it stops. So I suppose there's no hope of curing that one without taking a lot of things apart.

I'm very disappointed with the armrest on the door too, I always have to be aware of how much weight I put on it with my elbow when I position myself in the seat because it feels like its going to break. What a joke, as if getting in and out wasn't hard enough but then I can't use the armrest either. I only weigh 155 for crying out loud!

The gas mileage is awesome, but the car is still expense. A few aluminum brakets or some properly molded plastic for strength would not have reduced gas mileage.

Yeah but it would mean less profit for them. We can't have that can we? Shame they are going to the Mercedes-Benz route.

 have had my Prius for about a month and the the dreaded dash rattle and passenger door rattle has popped its head. I have had a gen 2 for several years without 1 issue. I really enjoy riding this car but I am really annoyed with Toyota for dropping the ball on quality. I guess it would be useless go to dealer as it looks like problem is from poor design. I hope my mind set overrides the rattle but I think IF I ever get another vehicle, it won't be a Toyota.

Yes, it's always best to remove everything from the glovebox, console and sunglass holder before looking for the source of noises.
