2010 MPG Stats - Post Them Here

Just picked up a blue 2010 Prius II now with about 200 miles. My 01 Prius was recently retired (totaled by State Farm - a sad story) @ 344,595 miles at an average of about 48 MPG. So just a little hybrid experience, not to mention 10's of thousands of miles experience on a 2004 Prius. I rented a 2010 while the insurance company decided whether to fix the '01; and registered 60.9 MPG on the display for 544 miles which happened to be the be in the best ever according to the trip meter. (That car had just over 16,000 miles on it when I turned it in.) My first tankful on my new car is only 54.3 as it has been very rainy here in upstate NY for the past 2 days. I did bump up the PSI to 44 front and 42 rear.

First was a quick trip about 130km (4 adults and beach stuff in rear) and then some running around in town before I filled up


Equates to 67.2 mpg U.S.

Or 61.89 mpg U.S. However in calculation it worked out to 57.93 mpg.
a 6.84% diff when calculated from the L/100km numbers.

Not bad all in all as I run the AC in auto prob 90% of the time, and run in ECO about 85%, with a bit of PWr just for fun. Tires are set to 40 psi cold.

 

My '10 Gen III Prius III (Now Three as of 2011, I guess) has averaged 42.8 MPG for it's first 5,000 miles. I have just kept Trip B running to keep an overall average. I know 42.8 seems low but I'm actually very happy with this number. I use the car to deliver pizza and I made a deal with myself that I would not concern myself with "hypermiling" while on the job. Here is why: When I'm not working, I can get up to 54 MPG just cruising around and paying attention to how I drive. For work, I drive about 100-120 miles per night. It's only taken a month and a half to get to 5,000 miles. If I drove 120 mile at 54 MPG, it would cost me about $6 for gas at $2.70 per gallon. At 43 MPG, it would cost me about $7.50 for gas for the same 120 miles. I find that when I try to get better gas mileage, I tend to drive slower including slower starts and stops. If it took me an extra 3 to 5 minutes per delivery to get the higher gas mileage, I could easily lose 2 to 3 deliveries by the end of the night, which might cost me $6 to $12 by the end of the night. This is why I'm just fine with the 43 mpg for now. When I'm done with school and no longer delivering pizza, I will try to bump it up past 50. I know it can do it, because I've done it when I'm not working, but my overall average is 42.8 MPG.
While I'm on this subject, can anyone explain the pulse part of "pulse and glide"? I totally get the glide part, but what is the best technique for the pulse part?

566 miles on my first tank @ 60mpg

 

I have done 3 manual calculations in a row (didn't do one on my first fill up) and have consistantly gotten between 48 and 49 while the average reads 52 or so. I would say the 3 under rule applies to me. I would like to get my calculated average up to 50 at least. Doesn't seem to matter if i use eco mode or power mode or neither. i always start very high and the average drops the life of the tank because most of my driving is highway driving. my best average with just 30 miles on the trip meter (highway trip but i was able to creep a long a little slower) was 66.5.

 

16th Tank 45.9MPG (Calculated). 48.3 (Indicated)

Warm-HOT temps 55-95. AC set at 79. 99% ECO Mode. A few rainy days. Indicated 48.3MPG.

My best tank was a recent one

633.3 miles, 9.924 gallons = 63.8 mpg (HSI = 65.6)

 

First tank in my brand new Prius II and I got 52.45 miles/gallon!

 

One year, 12,000 miles,
overall actual avg. 48 mpg

 

Winter 2010: 44mpg via "consumption" but 41 mpg by calculation
Summer 2010: 50 mpg but 47.7 by calculation

Does anyone else find a discrepancy when using the consumption on the display vs. actually dividing the total miles by gallons used each fill?

 

Yes, it is well documented on this site. Here are my discrepancies, in MPG, with the calculated always being less than the screen:

I get 58 mpg very happy. That is running the AC AS WELL

 

A quick note to say my first 3,000 miles have resulted in a display MPG of 61.8. One tank had a calculated error of 3.5%. I will calculate all tanks soon. This compares to an average calculated MPG of just shy of 48 on my 2001 Prius, recently sold, with nearly 345,000 miles. My guess is I will get around 60 calculated in the summer and 54 in the winter for a combined total around 56 or a little higher in the long wintered Fingerlakes area of NY state. I do little interstate driving. I keep my tires @ 44 PSI front and 42 PSI rear. If you are behind me don't expect me to brake very much and if you ride with me don't expect much A/C use. Oh, and bring a sweater in the winter!

Drove 990 miles, used 22 gallon of gas, had a smooth comfortable ride, drove the posted speed limit of 75 mph (ok approx 3.5% over it) in and out of towns, ac on, and into strong winds both ways; and had a great trip with a great companion! 2010 Black Prius

 

I have a UK Prius T-Spirit, on hire while I wait for my new one to arrive and have averaged 58 mpg. That includes motorway and urban driving.
Not bad I think! Hope my new one does as good.

 

I've been averaging into the low 60's for the last couple of months. Currently, I have about 449 miles on the ODO (since my last fillup), and reading 61.9 MPG as I pulled into work this morning. Average speed, which includes a fair amount of time waiting at stop lights, is 34 mph. I tend to set the cabin temperature right around 75F, so I avoid a heavy drain on the battery.

I'm very happy with these numbers.

I expect as the temp drops, so too will my MPGs. But that's also the case with every car.

Warm-mild temps 55-88. AC set at 79. 99% ECO Mode. A few rainy days. No ethanol.

Seem to get better highway vs. city. Got up to 60 mpg on a 100 mi trip (mostly highway). But around town, lots of lights & short trip I get around 40 mpg. That's me - usually backwards

 

the big trip of the year. atlanta to upstate ny, then nova scotia, then home..4570 mi. 53.7 mpg. when on interstate drove between 68-70 mph, lots of luggage and 2 occupants. the prius is a great traveling car.
